Last year's College Prefect, Tiana Bray, graduated in November with a very high ATAR of 93.45. Tiana shared some timely study tips and her ruthless rule for avoiding procrastination...
"What was your favourite subject at King's?"
- Definitely Legal Studies! It fascinated and intrigued me while nurturing my innate desire to argue and prove a point. I'm now pursuing a career in this area so doing subjects that you enjoy is a great idea!
"What was your most effective study habit?"
- Make a study timetable for each subject. It's a great way to keep yourself accountable and it ensures that you cover every aspect of study. You will be confident going into your exams knowing you are fully prepared.
"What do you recommend to do when things get stressful?"
- Take a deep breath and remind yourself why you’re working so hard. Write down your end goal or your reason for needing a good mark and put it somewhere so you can be constantly reminded of your 'why.'
"How do you manage your time and avoid procrastination?"
- During exam and assignment periods, myself (and many of my cohort) deleted our social media accounts so they wouldn’t distract us. I honestly found this so helpful and a massive time saver for finishing study.
"What is your best piece of study advice for obtaining good results?"
- Make your study a priority. Put your head down, work your absolute hardest and accept that during a short and intense study period you may not get to do all the social things you want to but it will be worth it in the end. Most importantly - utilise your teachers. Submit practice essays to several teachers and they will give you valuable feedback on how to improve your answers and techniques.
"What achievement are you most proud of?"
- Finishing first in three subjects in Year 12 (Accounting, Business and Film & TV).
"What are doing this year?"
- I'm studying a double degree in Laws (Honours) and Business at Griffith University. This combines all of my passions and gives me plenty of career options when I graduate. I’m still adjusting to not being in school every day, but I’m so excited for all that’s ahead!
