King’s International Community Celebrates Chinese Tradition

China’s Dragon Boat Festival (also called Duanwu Festival), is one of the four most important annual traditions in the country, falling on 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. It has been observed for over 2,000 years in China, to commemorate Qu Yuan (340-278 BC) – a famous Chinese patriotic poet who wrote many reforms to show his care and devotion to his country. Chinese people enjoy a three-day holiday to mark the occasion each year, where they enjoy dragon boat racing and their favourite festival food ‘Zongzi’ (sticky rice dumplings). To celebrate with our Chinese student community, King’s International Team organised a traditional lunch for the students at the King’s Table and invited their homestay parents and the Chaplaincy team. Guests enjoyed the selection of Chinese food and the chance to share part of this special tradition with students.
