King's Building Openings Mark a Milestone Day

The fourth of May marked a milestone day in the life of King’s Christian College, as all three campuses held building opening ceremonies attended by State and Federal Members of Parliament, local Councillors, Church Elders and Executive Pastors, members of the College Board, Principals, ISQ and BGA (Block Grant Authority) representatives, P&F Committee members, and other special guests.

Reedy Creek’s event included a belated opening of the refurbished High School Maths and English block, as well as the opening of The Hub building with five new Year 4 classrooms on level 1, and the ground floor communal space and classrooms, that were all completed in early 2020.

The College was honoured to host Mrs Melissa McMahon MP, who represented the Queensland Government and acknowledged their significant funding contribution toward the High School classroom refurbishments and the new Year 4 classrooms. Throughout Mrs McMahon’s speech, she spoke very fondly of King’s and the impact its three campuses are having on the wider Gold Coast and Logan Village communities.

"It’s this commitment to world-class education and investment in world-class educational facilities like these that mean King’s students will be at the forefront of learning opportunities,” Mrs McMahon said. ‘I have had the opportunity to teach in a range of schools across South East Queensland and I can tell you that the difference between a brand new or refurbished classroom, compared to an old building, really does change a student’s approach to learning."

King’s also had the great privilege of hosting Hon Karen Andrews MP, Minister for Home Affairs and MP for McPherson, at the Reedy Creek building opening. Hon Andrews represented the Australian Government and their financial contributions toward the Ground Floor infill of The Hub which has created a flexible learning and social engagement space for students of all year levels. Hon Andrews spoke of the memorable experience she has enjoyed during every visit to King’s.

"It is easy to understand why King’s has such a fine reputation for enriching the lives of students and developing each students’ unique gifts and talents,” she said. “I acknowledge your school for its ongoing success and care for your students and the community. Your College’s Foundational Values shine through as characteristics in your students, and we (the Government) really value the work that you are doing here."

King’s Reedy Creek Official Building Opening


College Board Chair, Brendon Blakemore, spoke on behalf of the College in thanking the government and the BGA for their contributions and acknowledged his gratitude for King’s staff who go above and beyond in delivering such an outstanding Christian education. College Captain Isaac Gallagher concluded the official ceremony with a prayer of dedication over the new facilities, before guests took a guided tour of the new and refurbished learning spaces.
