First Aid Lessons in Primary

Primary

This week our Years 2 - 6 students had a visit from St John Ambulance Australia educators, as part of the First Aid in Schools program. Each class enjoyed their own 50-minute session in the iHub, where they enjoyed engaging and meaningful presentations relevant to their level of learning. The students learned some basic First Aid, including how to effectively help someone who was injured and how to get help from a trusted adult in various circumstances. They were shown how to make an emergency phone call in a critical situation and talked about the information they would need to give the 000 operator.

The students shared some ideas about how they could look for dangerous hazards around their home and were taught how to check if someone is breathing by looking, listening and feeling for a person's breath. The St John's representatives also demonstrated how to place someone in the recovery position if they are unconscious. Our Primary students all seemed fascinated to learn these essential life skills and it was great to see them help and care for each other during the First Aid role plays. Every student was presented with a Certificate of Attendance to complete the lesson.
