For the Love of Art
The Primary Art Program is continuing to build momentum. It is so exciting to see the students loving art and being creative. In Prep and Year 1, the students have been creating collaged houses while learning about building their lives on ‘The Rock’. Amidst the excitement of beautiful and shiny papers, the students are making every effort to accent the features of a house and make choices with colour and pattern.

Year 2 has been creating a mixed media ocean scene which has incorporated collage, painting and printing on the background, as well as creating a ship from recycled cardboard and coloured paper, reminding us about the story of ‘Jonah and the Whale’. Students learned about shapes, especially triangles and how to attach them to a mast in their images.

Year 3 has been creating pictures in the style of Mondrian to convey a sense of balance, one of the Principles of Art and Design. Similarly, the Year 4s have created contrasting images with Notan art. This has been exciting to see the students ‘expand the square’ and ‘think outside the box’ in order to create these wonderful images.
Year 5 are part way through their unit on Pop Art. They have printed bubble wrap on coloured paper to create the dotted effect for their ‘Pop’ posters, referencing Roy Lichtenstein.
Year 6 have been having fun creating caricatures of themselves as well as creating and designing ‘zines’ which are small magazines that are produced in order to share information. They are learning to make design choices in laying out text and images onto a page.
Primary are having a lot of fun at the moment with art!
