Getting to Know our New King's Staff | Mr Robert Smith

King's are fortunate to have amazing new staff members join our teaching team each year and in our early editions of the 2022 College Newsletter, we will introduce some of these staff to our community. In this edition, we hear from Mr Robert Smith, who has joined the Music Department as a Violin and Viola teacher, and whose class you should always be on time for!

"Tell us a little more about yourself..."
- I was born in Sydney but my family moved to the Northern NSW Hinterland when I was quite young. I completed my school studies via distance education and then auditioned for the Queensland Conservatorium, where I am currently in my fourth and final year of a Bachelor of Music in Performance.
"Where did your teaching career begin..."
- I started my teaching career as a private tutor for Upper Strings and have had teaching positions at Dalseno String Studio and many of the SHEP and AHEP Programs in Brisbane.
"Do you have a favourite book..."
- I have always enjoyed reading biographies of Corrie Ten Boom. She lived during the Second World War and was instrumental in saving many people from some of the most harrowing situations. Corrie and her family’s faith is an incredible example to all of us.
"What accomplishment are you most proud of..."
- I am extremely grateful for all of the opportunities that have been given to me. One of the most memorable would be when I was concertmaster at last year’s Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp in Melbourne, where I was blessed to be able to perform and rehearse with some of the best emerging musicians in the country.
"What's your biggest pet peeve..."
- For some reason, I can’t stand being late to anything!
