King's Win QLD Intermediate Schools Volleyball Cup
The Intermediate Schools Cup is an annual volleyball festival targeted at year 9 and 10 High School Students. The event is held across various venues in Toowoomba. Catering to approximately 2,000 students and 160 teams over three days, athletes of all skill levels come together to play quality volleyball.
This year was the second year that King’s entered a team into the Championships. After finishing 7th last year the Year 10 boys were eager to improve on this result. With a year of training under their belt, the team had transformed from last year and set themselves a goal of achieving top three for 2018. Head Coach, Glenn Robertson has done an amazing job putting in countless hours to help these young men achieve their goal.
I am extremely proud of the team for the way they conducted themselves on and off the court. Our pool was made up of experienced volleyball schools from Brisbane who have been entering these competitions for over 20 years. King’s shocked everyone or as Glenn would call it “shook the volleyball tree” by going through the pool rounds undefeated.
In the Semi Final King’s faced Ferny Grove. This was a close game where we hung on in the second set after facing set points to win 26-24. The Final against Redeemer Catholic College was no different. With a strong start in the first two sets, King’s had to work hard and close the match out taking 6 set points to do so.
I would like to congratulate the team for being the first King’s team to win a QLD Volleyball Cup Championships! Your hard work paid off and your passion for volleyball is what is going to keep you succeeding in what you do. This now qualifies the team to compete in Melbourne at the National Schools Cup in December. They have also been invited to play up a division in the QLD Senior Schools Cup in 10 weeks’ time. Congratulations to Ari Klein who received MVP for the final and once again thank Glenn (Robbo) for steering this team to a Championship winning team and building the culture of volleyball at King’s.
