Primary Students Joined Virtual Reading of Simultaneous Storytime
King’s Pimpama Primary Student’s joined in the fun for the 20th National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) which was held on 27 May at 11am across Australia and New Zealand. This year well-loved children’s author and illustrator, Lucinda Gifford’s book, “Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas” was selected for the simultaneous virtual reading to over one million students in schools, preschools, and libraries. Criteria for choosing the book included a positive storyline; appeal to a modern and diverse audience; suitability for read-aloud (language and length); how well the book lends itself to craft and other activities.

The storyline is about Whitney and Britney who are two gorgeous chooks, Fluffy and silky with stunning good looks. Dora is perplexed about where her chooks go each night. Little does she know, they are Whitney and Britney, Chicken Divas!
The NSS aims to promote the value of reading and literacy as well as the fun of books and is supported by the Australian Library and Information Association.
