Year 8s Learn About Japanese Culture
On Wednesday, our Year 8 students travelled to the Reedy Creek campus to participate in a Japanese cultural day with their peers. The day was a culmination of their study of Shogunate Japan for History this term. Students were treated to a performance by a Japanese drumming band - and then given the opportunity to demonstrate their own musical talents! Students were also able to take part in a Japanese tea ceremony and gain an understanding of its Christian origins. The day was creatively completed with Year 8 learning to write the Japanese characters of 'King', 'Create' and 'Love' in calligraphy as well as making an origami samurai helmet.
All of the activities helped Year 8 to realise the significance of culture within Japanese society and how important it is for the leaders of Japan, past and present, to protect it.
