‘What ethical values makes a leader worth following?”
This is the driving question that Year 6 students investigated over the past 4 weeks. Along their learning journey students explored their love languages, multiple intelligence learning styles as well as their strengths and passions.
Students collaborated with team members to analyse the Foundational Values of King’s Christian College, with an emphasis on Courage and its role in leading others. Going even deeper, students used their personal values and skills to compare and contrast biblical leaders such as Moses, Noah, Joshua and Daniel, in order to identify the character traits of highly effective leaders.
All the learning, research, analysis and exploration finally led to their end product: designing and delivering an impactful devotion for their buddy class on. After many hours of planning, refining and rehearsing, students were ready to enter into the Culminating Event.
On Friday, 22nd February, each group visited one buddy class across Prep to Year 5, presenting their learning to an authentic audience. Nerves quickly settled as students led their buddy class on an exploration of leadership, using multimodal presentations such as video, song, quizzes and Bible stories.
We are so proud of all the Year 6 students for modelling servant leadership to the younger generations at King’s. Their passion and courage truly set them apart as Christian leaders for future generations.

On Friday February 8, the P&F held their first event for 2019, the Prep Social. Outdoor games, a jumping castle, sausage sizzle and cupcakes were enjoyed and despite a little bit a rain, we are sure everybody had an enjoyable afternoon!
Thank you to our P&F volunteers, school & church staff who helped on the day and behind the scenes.
We look forward to many more fun P&F events throughout the year.

On Friday 15 February, the Prep classes enjoyed a lunchtime picnic with their families. It was great to have their families at school to enjoy this special time.
The campus was alive Monday morning last week as the Year Seven cohort prepared to embark on their first ever High School Camp. After a short drive to CYC Burleigh, students were engaged in small group activities as they got to know their group leader and the other students who would be part of their group for the next 3 days. The focus of camp was ‘I am Responsible’ - a great lead into the culture of High School.
Our activities were a range of surf, creek and adventure based tasks that help develop students knowledge and understanding of water safety, a vital skill for young people living on the Gold Coast. Every morning we had the steep climb over Burleigh Hill to get to Tallebudgera where most of the activities took place. This also meant we had to go back over Burleigh Hill at the end of every day to get back to camp! The four activities students rotated through were: surfing, stand up paddle boarding, dragon boating and abseiling and rock climbing. Each of these challenged students in very different ways. At times, they had to work together to make an activity a success and at other times, they relied heavily on their own persistence and determination to successfully achieve their goals for that activity (like standing up on the surfboard).
As always, devotions were a highlight of our evening program. It was awesome to see our Year 7 students respecting and supporting each other as they praised and listened to fantastic messages from Pastor Matt and Miss Soper. Strong bonds have come out of extended time spent in prayer with one another which we cannot wait to see flourish here in the playground.
We are so proud of the excellent behaviour our students exhibited whilst on camp. With our Foundational Values at the core of everything we set out to achieve on camp, our students have come back not only having experienced the activities that were on offer, but having used these experiences to develop their character, their friendships, their sense of community as a high school student and their relationship with God. The memories gained are going to stay with them for years to come.

We are very excited to have started our year 1-3 and year 4-7 choirs this term with a bang!
We had 145 students come in our first week of year 1-3 choir and close to 60 students for our year 4-7 choir. Eager students who love to sing filled our amphitheatre with their beautiful voices!
We are looking forward to our upcoming events this year which include Spring Fair, Gold Coast Choir Eisteddfod, performances at our local shopping centres and our many school events which include Easter service, Anzac Day and our beloved Grandparents Day!
It is an absolute joy and passion of mine to see students flourish in their musical journey and singing in a choir promotes both social and academic benefits that are invaluable to a child’s development.

The Hinterland (Green) Swimming Trials were held at Somerset College on Tuesday 19 February. Five dedicated swimmers represented the college in a field of 17 schools.
Most of our competitors performed a PB in their events, finishing in the top 10 overall.
Mason Mower, year 4 gave the best performance of the day finishing 2nd overall in the 100m Freestyle. Mason has now qualified to compete at Regionals for 100m Free and 50m Fly.
Congratulations Mason, and swim team!

Cross Country training for 2019 has begun. Training takes place every Tuesday morning from 7:15am for students in Years 4 to 7. Training sessions are designed to give opportunity to students who wish to improve their running fitness and to begin preparations for the cross country season. We find that training together motivates students and builds better team morale.
Our Cross Country carnival is being held on Tuesday, 2 April.

This Term, our chaplaincy team will be facilitating a few new activities for students. We have set up 'The Hub' as a place where students can come and play loads of games. They can bring a friend or meet some new ones.
The Hub will run on Tuesday’s at first break for year’s 4-6 in the lecture theatre and at second break for year 7 in the S.I.L.O room.
On Friday’s the Hub runs for all years (prep - year 7) before school (7:40am - 8:20am) in the 5D classroom and outside is a fitness boxing program available for students who want to burn some extra energy. At second break the Hub will run for prep - year 3 in the lecture theatre.
Every Wednesday we have an interactive prayer group for all students held in Mr. Anderson's year 1 classroom. This runs from 7:40am - 8:20am.

We had an incredible first Beyond of 2019 on Friday, with 148 students participating. Student's enjoyed the laser skirmish combat and obstacles, nerf gun games and plenty of fun on the jumping castles. It was great to see so many students and parents engaged at Family Chapel as Ps Matt shared an awesome message about trusting in God even when it doesn't seem to make sense. "When you don't know why, trust and apply".
We look forward to the next Beyond 29th March
