Year 3 Travel Expo
5 April 2019
This term, our Year 3 students have learnt about Australia and what it takes to live sustainably, ensuring a positive future. They have discovered who our neighbouring countries are, what makes our country attractive to tourists and, finally, where Australia sits in the ‘bigger picture’ of space. Students have designed a brochure for tourists looking to visit Australia and have completed a written piece entitled ‘Australia is the place to visit’.
To celebrate this learning, we held a Travel Expo. As part of this, students dressed up in ‘Aussie’ attire for the afternoon and brought in some of their favourite Aussie snacks to share at their stalls. To finish the afternoon they sang 'Give me a home amongst the Gumtrees'.
A huge thank you to all the parents who came to support and encourage our Year 3 students on what has been a big term of learning.
The Year 3 Team.
Prep Classes join with Reedy Creek
5 April 2019
Our Pimpama Prep students had fun connecting with the Prep students and their teachers at the Reedy Creek Campus. As there are 5 classes at both campuses, we each adopted a class to share our special places from the different schools. Each class made an iBook to share and we also caught up on facetime. It was with great excitement when we finally welcomed our Reedy Creek friends to our Campus showing them the areas we had shared and having a chance to do an activity together. Reedy Creek reciprocated, and we had the opportunity to travel on our school buses to visit their special places.

AMP'd - Senior Service
5 April 2019
One of our AMP'd programs this term has been Senior Service. This involves a group of students visiting the local Tricare Retirement Community. The students have been blessed as they spend time with the residents. Here is one student's account.
The main reason I do Senior service is because it brings me joy talking and laughing to with them. They sometimes don’t have family who visits them and to see them smile is just feels so joyful you actually want to see them every day. I love them and they love us. What is the best gift of all when you do something nice for someone is to see them have as much or even more fun as you are having with them. That is just a couple of the many reasons why I do Senior Service.

You Have A Friend - Love for the Homeless
28 March 2019
The combined efforts of King's High School, Reedy Creek and Pimpama campuses, and King's Trade Training College has resulted in a tonne of love to You Have a Friend who are serving the homeless of the Gold Coast.
Lunchtime BBQs and wear your own t-shirt to school raised $2588.10 that will be used to purchase 25 swags for those living on the streets through this winter. 5553 cans were donated by generous King's families to be given to those who don't have the luxury of a cupboard full of food.
You Have a Friend's founder, Mr Lee, expressed his immense gratitude to the staff, students and families of King's Christian College. "You have a wonderful school and your support in greatly appreciated. We don't ever know the extent of someone's background so we don't judge. We simply love them through their current circumstances."
Congratulations to Newton house who collected the most cans and won points towards the annual Principal's Cup. Special congratulations to N6 PC class who led the charge with 530 cans contributed to the very worthy cause.
It is at the foundation of our values to love faithfully and live purposefully and we pray for the amazing work You Have a Friend do for those in need on the Gold Coast.

Musical Highlights
5 April 2019
Our first musical was a bit hit. Both performances were well attended and it was great to see the school community come together. Thank you so much to the parents and staff who worked so hard to help make the musical happen. Here are a few highlights - but look out in the next newsletter for more.

Fun Run 2019
5 April 2019
What a FUN morning we all had at the P-2 Fun Run.
It was wonderful to see our little athletes giving their best efforts as they made their way around the Fun Run course.
Congratulations to these students for their efforts and results on the day:

Year 6 Vision Boards
5 April 2019
Habakkuk 2:2 tells us to write the vision and make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.
This year the all of Year 6 girls will have the opportunity to create their very own vision boards. The girls will work in small groups and they will be encouraged to pray, dream and wonder. The girls can be as creative as they want to be.
The goal of the vision boards is that each girl will know that they have a purpose and dream that God has put inside them that is just for them.

Gold Coast North Chess Championships
5 April 2019
Tuesday 12 March 2019, 42 King’s Christian College Pimpama students competed in the Term 1 Inter-school Gold Coast North Chess Championships, held at St Stephens College. 310 students competed from 12 different schools across 4 divisions- A Grade, B Grade, C Grade and D Grade.
This competition was a good indication of where we are at skill level wise in correlation with other schools at this stage of the year. As the coach I’ve identified the areas we need to work on however I was very proud and saw many positives throughout all the grade. Well Done! Results as follows:
A Grade:

Library News
5 April 2019
We are very fortunate to have several school libraries at King’s Christian College. Our libraries aim to develop our students in information literacy and to become lifelong readers. Our staff encourage the development of students reading, of different types of literature ranging from our expansive range of quality fiction titles, to a wide range of non-fiction literature of age appropriate books.
At King’s we value reading, and grades Prep – Year 6 all have a regular library lesson. All students are required and encouraged to borrow books each week. Borrowing books is an essential part of our school curriculum, to develop our students to not only become better readers but to become literary. Library staff guide students to read different types of literature and genres.
Borrowing library books from our school library teaches the responsibility of being part of a school community. We also encourage our students to read books from home and other sources, as an extension to our curriculum, not as an alternative. I would encourage all parents to continue to promote reading with their children. Our friendly staff are here to help.

Reminder of Before School and Drop Off Procedures
5 April 2019
Playground supervision begins at 7.30am each morning. Students should not arrive prior to this time. If so, they should be
attending Before School Care. Please go to KOSHC for more information.
Once your child feels settled into the morning routine, please feel free to use the Kiss and Go zone. This zone is designated
by the yellow zone on the roadside adjacent to the kerb, directly in front of the school. When using this drive through drop
off zone, please stay with your car and limit your unloading time to two minutes. This will provide improved traffic flow for
everyone on campus.
