King’s Pimpama’s 2021 Middle School inaugural College Captains, Vice-Captain and House Captains were officially inducted into their leadership roles during a formal assembly.
It was wonderful to have the parents of these incumbent leaders attend this important event. One of King’s foundational values is to LEAD diligently and our mission statement states our goal in "educating students in Christian leadership for tomorrow's generation”.
Outgoing Campus Principal, Mr Russell Meyers, introduced new Campus Principal, Mr Rob Verreynne, who addressed the assembly with some poignant advice about leadership and an analogy on the characteristics of runway lights to a pilot. One important criterion is that runway lights are always connected to a power source.
He reminded our leaders that they would be setting the benchmark for those coming behind them and to aim high. Mr Verreynne challenged them to leave their successors an extremely high mark to set their sights on!
College Chapel Captains, David Contador and Milly Keeley, performed their inaugural assembly duties with a Bible reading and prayer for a bold spirit for those stepping into leadership in 2021. College Captains, Emmanuel Ferisa and Allegra Morrow, spoke from the heart to their cohort at their first official duty.
Partnering in the service was King’s Church Lead Pastor, Ps Ben Naitoko, who assisted with the presentation of badges and journal. Ps Ben concluded the service with a prayer of commission over all of our 2021 Middle School leaders and cohort.
We pray for each of our 2021 student leaders as they grow their leadership capacity throughout the year ahead. We know that it is only through a close connection with God, as well as these important partnerships with our parents, families and local churches that we can grow outstanding Christian leaders to be influential in their generation.
Our Year 7 students enjoyed a wet and wonderful camp at Burleigh CYC, on the north side of Burleigh Heads National Park. The camp theme was 'Sun, Surf and Sand', with all activities making the most of the idyllic location. The students experienced some typical Gold Coast activities, such as surfing and stand up paddleboarding, although the weather was anything but typical. Students endured heavy rain for much of their time at camp but took it all in their stride.
Memorable moments included abseiling down Point Danger, tubing behind a boat on the Tallebudgera and evening devotions, where many students made a first-time decision to follow Jesus.
The Year 8 students ventured to Tyalgum Ridge for their annual year level camp, where the crater walls of Mount Warning were the backdrop for a truly Australian bush adventure. The students enjoyed an authentic experience of the outdoors, with activities such as hiking, kayaking, mountain biking and archery. Back at the campsite, our students enjoyed close contact with the many farm animals and native wildlife.
Devotions were a highlight on both nights. Students learned more about the Holy Spirit in an atmosphere where the presence of God was felt. The camp was filled with many memorable moments where students demonstrated personal growth, from conquering a fear of heights on the high ropes to learning how to navigate the bush.
Construction of two new classrooms in King's Early Learning Centre, affectionately known as 'Noah's Ark', has now been completed. King's staff have contacted the many families waiting patiently for a spot, who were thrilled to learn that their children could begin their academic journey at King's Christian College.
"Our new 'Bandicoots' and 'Pelicans' friends have begun settling in, meeting new teachers and friends, exploring their environment and creating many fun and happy memories. We will continue to meet new arrivals to these classes over the next few weeks," said Mrs Claire Hadfield, Early Learning Coordinator at King's Pimpama.
This Early Learning Centre expansion means King's now offers high-quality care and education for up to 148 children per day at Noah's Ark, with two classes of kindy-aged children (2.5 to 3.5 years) and four classes of Pre Prep students.
Children who begin their learning journey at King's Early Learning will enjoy 'A Start Full of Promise' as they become part of the wider King's Christian College community, and enjoy a smooth and successful transition to formal schooling in Prep.
Last week, Year 2 had an amazing incursion to bring their Integrated Studies unit to life. They were joined by their peers from King's Logan Village campus.
Waterbug Wonders allowed students to get a closer look at water insects and their life cycles. They learned about the life cycle of a dragonfly and mosquito; some students even had the opportunity to dress the part. The highlight of the day was catching and scooping up the water bugs to have a closer look. The students all loved getting to become budding scientists and explore the world of minibeasts.
Year 6 students have been exploring the question ‘How can we build community as servant leaders?’ in Integrated Studies.
The students reflected on who they were and the strengths, interests and passions that drove them. They identified the qualities of effective servant leaders, including key biblical leaders, and examined which of those qualities they saw in themselves and others. The project culminated in an opportunity for students to develop as servant leaders through helping in a variety of areas and departments across the school.
Eleven of our talented swimmers took part in the Hinterland District ‘Green’ swimming time trials on Tuesday at Somerset College. As a time trial event, students were competing to be selected for a coveted spot on the Hinterland District team to compete at South Coast Regionals. These young athletes were outstanding ambassadors for the College and demonstrated why they were selected to represent King's. Each student gave their best efforts in a very tough competition.

Library Lovers’ Day is an annual opportunity for students to celebrate the valuable role that libraries play in their lives. The theme for Library Lovers' Day 2021 was Make a Date with your Library and was held on our campus last Monday. This year, 242 students from Years 5-12 were involved in our competitions across campuses.
"We were thrilled to participate in Library Lover’s Day in the Senior Pimpama Library for the first time this year," said Holley Greenway, Librarian at the Pimpama Campus, "To celebrate at our campus, our libraries provided giveaways, activities and competitions throughout the day for students to get involved in."
The Senior Library (Year 5 - 9) held two competitions:
The Primary Library (Prep-Year 4) held their annual colouring-in competition.
Students in Year 5 to 9 also had an opportunity to choose to have a ‘Blind Date with a Book’, encouraging students to expand their reading and discover books they may not have chosen before.
The students all loved the day and are already looking forward to celebrating library Lovers' Day next year!
