Jesus said, “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God" (Matthew 5:9). Awards are given at each fortnightly assembly to students who exhibit the traits of a peacemaker. Sharing, helping others, cleaning up, listening, showing kindness to classmates and waiting patiently for a turn are just some of the many positive social skills displayed by a peacemaker.
Peacemakers receive a certificate and trophy which they keep in the classroom until the next assembly when new peacemakers are acknowledged. When students choose to make peace, over arguing, they are remembering that the relationship with their friends is more important than what they were arguing about. As a school we value this Christian principle and recognise students who are growing in this area.
Our first Prep Peacemakers for 2018 are:
Tali Cavalli (PG), Evelyn Terhorst (PH), Ara Jung (PJ) and Isabella Panaro (PI)
Piano lessons continue at King's Pimpama this year. Our piano teacher, Joanna Funk, comes into the school on Mondays to teach our students.
These private lessons are 30 minutes long at a cost of $32.50 per lesson. There are usually 8 lessons per term, with each lesson taking place during class time each Monday.
So far piano has been a very popular instrument choice amongst our students and as a result, there are currently only three places left for this term! If your child is interested in learning piano, please pick up the information forms from the office to secure one of the final positions in the program.
To see what's possible from a very young age, here are a couple of little ones playing a duet with Joanna. These videos are from Joanna's blog where you can also find our more about her experiences and the services she offers.
My name is Matt Treagus. I'm the College Chaplain here at Pimpama and I can't wait to see what 2018 has in store. I'm excited to have a team with me this year. As chaplains, it's our role to work alongside teaching staff and parents to ensure your children are cared for and supported throughout their journey at King's. We run weekly chapel services, provide pastoral care support, help run our Friday night program called 'Beyond' and do whatever we can to ensure that students learn about the incredible plan that God has for their life in a fun and engaging way. I'm always up for a chat, so if you ever need to contact me, please do so through reception or via email.
Hi there! My name is Sophie Lakeman. I was a chaplain at Pimpama last year and I loved getting to know all the students and their families. I graduated from King's myself in 2016 and I remember how much it helped to be able to talk to the chaplains when I was feeling down. My passion is to let kids know that they are loved and to help them find their God-given purpose.
Hi my name is Marianne Koops and I have been involved with King’s since my first born started at the Reedy Creek campus 23 years ago. Both of my sons attended King’s since they were 2 and half years of age. They both received an amazing God centred academic education second to none. I myself started out as a volunteer parent then gained employment at King’s as a Teacher Aide of special needs children and assisting our fabulous teaching staff for the next 15 years. In 2009 I obtained a Diploma of Professional Counselling in which I have served the college at Reedy Creek faithfully assisting our College and Chaplains with friendship issues, emotional and general well being. I also help out with our awesome Chapels which are incredible and can I tell you if you haven’t been to one please come and see what your children are receiving weekly. This year I am working at both campuses in Student Wellbeing Support and I am looking forward to meeting you and your beautiful children.
My name is Jasmin Farrell and this year I have the absolute privilege of being one of the Chaplains here at King's Pimpama. I am a recently graduated student from King's Reedy Creek where I was Chapel Captain and am so excited for the year ahead. I am passionate about our young girls finding their identity in Christ and reaching their God given potential.
Hi! My name is Takuya Luckett and I am one of the new Chaplains here at the Pimpama Campus! I am eager to connect with the students here at King’s and impact their lives with the life-giving message of Jesus! I graduated from King’s last year from the Reedy Creek campus and was a college Prefect who would regularly come up every Friday to engage with the kids. During my time as a year 12 student, I was also leading the King’s IMPACT Worship Band to grow band members on only in their own instrument, but also helping them with their walk with God. I am looking forward to building the students up spiritually, seeing the school grow and making chapels an amazing space to encounter the love of God!
My name is Izaacc Brewer, I am so excited to be a chaplain at Pimpama this year. I found hope and purpose in Jesus after finishing Grade 12. I have a passion to see students built up so that they can run after God with nothing holding them back. I'm also completing a Bachelor of Ministry and completing my carpentry apprenticeship.
My name is Elizabeth Oloaga. I moved to the Gold Coast from NSW just over a year ago. I spent the last year working as a Chaplain at Nerang State High. I'm married with two children, both attending Kings Pimpama this year in Prep and Grade 1. In my spare time, I love being at the beach, paddle boarding or being creative as I'm very 'arty'. I studied a Bachelor of Teaching / Bachelor of Arts, Diploma Youth Work, Fine Arts and Early Childhood. I began my journey working with children and young people 16 years ago, my experience includes various roles within primary and high school, youth and child care centres and children’s ministry. I feel honoured and very blessed to be part of the Kings family, my role includes Children’s Pastor, Chaplaincy and facilitating Friday night family service ‘Beyond’.
