There can be no doubt that the Year 12 Camp is one of the many highlights of the final year at King’s. In week 3, our Year 12 students spent three days bonding, having fun, and generating team spirit. This year, a new trophy dedicated to, and named after, Noel Collins, a founder of our school, inspired students to get involved in their House challenges. There were daily activities such as ball games, endurance challenges, obstacle courses and a 100 metre slip n’ slide. Without Mr Collins’ generous financial support, King’s would not be the school that it is today. Students encouraged each other to build House spirit and despite enormous competition and everyone giving their best, Finney won. (Go Finney!)
Though the camp was House-orientated, there were many activities such as Bingo and the annual garbage bag formal that brought the year level together. The only requirements of the formal was to have your attire made only of garbage bags - and to be as creative as possible! As each boy picked out a random shoe that a girl had given in, they spent the night together dancing, playing games and competing for the cutest couple award. This all added up to an enjoyable and amazing night.
These activities played a large part in uniting and building the year level, but the evening devotions allowed the students to bond spiritually and grow in their faith. The first night involved our faithful teachers sharing parts of their testimonies, while the second night included a message preached by Pastor Guy. Both nights found students connecting with each other through the words, worship and prayer which led to an amazing number of 24 students making a commitment or recommitting to their faith.
Through all these amazing activities, devotions and house games, the year 12s came back from camp united and on fire for God, making it an incredible three days and a camp that will always be remembered!
Jennifer Morris (Year 12)

This year the Norm Rix camp trophy was introduced to Year 8. Norm Rix is a Gold Coast developer whose generosity helped us start the Pimpama campus. The house with the most points at the end of camp would win the trophy.
Camp was enjoyed by everyone with new and different activities to challenge us and expand our thinking. The low ropes challenged our teamwork and helped with our team initiative. We later found out that the low ropes course was only the first challenge, as the next activity, high ropes was like the low ropes, but 12 metres in the air! A flying fox was attached at the end to give an extra challenge. Kayaking in the dam turned into a swim in the sweltering heat when one kayak capsized. Archery was followed with a bike-ride where we got to choose between a mountain bike and BMX.
The main event was the camp out. Over the two nights both the boys and girls hiked to a campsite separately, one night each. We put up our own tents, cooked our own food, and started our own fires. That night we had a session of gold-digging where we would point out the gold or good things someone did. In the morning, we packed up and set out to go rock-hopping in the creek.
Devotions on the first night was an inspiring night of worship. That night, forty students recommitted or gave their lives to Jesus. During the girls’ devotions, Tessa spoke to us about shedding all of the stuff we don’t need to carry and to give it to God. Shame, fear and other sinful worries were placed on the cross by almost everyone.
In the end the Norm Rix trophy was given to Tyndale. Originally it was a tie between Finney and Tyndale but there could only be one winner. The fastest person from Finney and Tyndale would have a race: first to the finish line wins the trophy! Brent and Bailee-Anne ran the 100 metre sprint. Bailee-Anne won making Tyndale the champion house and winners of the Norm Rix cup for the Year 8 camp.
- Natalie Hocking, Year 8

Both the Primary and High School took part in the annual APS Swimming Carnival last week at Somerset pool. With hot conditions our swimmers were keen to make a splash in the pool. Both teams got off to a strong start in the 100m Freestyle events and supported each other throughout the day. We saw a handful of Age Champions and our 10 year Girls and 13 year Boys took out their age groups earning themselves a Robina lunch with Mr Grady.
Our Primary team finished 6th and our High School achieved their best ever results finishing 4th overall (only 40 points off 3rd!).
I would like to congratulate all of our swimmers and thank the parents who were able to make it out to the pool to support the team. A big thank you to Taylor Durso who did an amazing job encouraging every single swimmer and helping them progress with their strokes in the water. Good luck to everyone who is looking at qualifying for Regionals. I will get the team list out to all parents when I receive them.

GO KING’S!
Mr Foster
Following on from our State silver medal at the Queensland Schools Nitro Challenge, our King’s Intermediate Girls team travelled to Cairns over the holidays and competed in the 2018 Coles Nitro Schools Challenge National Final
King’s Girls National Nitro team:
Jasmyne Coventry (1000m)
Sayla Donnelley (2x300m; Medley Relay)
Francesca MacDonald (2x300m relay; Medley Relay)
Amber Whitford (Sprint Hurdles)
Hayley Price (60m sprint)
Bailee-Anne Tewake (200m; Medley Relay)
Laura Cameron (High Jump)
Tanika Mahon (Long Jump; Medley Relay)
Jade Sneesby (Shot Put; Javelin)
Mrs Griffith, Mr Muir and the team flew into the monsoonal Cairns conditions on the Sunday before the competition and were pretty much “house bound” as the rain was unrelenting!
We woke up on the Monday morning to more heavy rain and wind with news from the officials that the track at Barlow Park was under water and over 20 tents at the track had been blown away and destroyed. This extreme weather led to the cancellation of the High Jump and Long Jump events which was bitterly disappointing for Laura and Tanika who were both in outstanding form and would have been very competitive in their events.
The carnival started with Jasmyne running an exceptional 1000m, placing 3rd out of the 10 starters and putting our “Power Play” (double points) to good use!
Our 2x300m event was unfortunate as our baton was knocked out of our hands on the start line, however Francesca ran a blistering 2nd leg to bring us back to 4th place.
Queensland 12 years girls 200m state record holder, Bailee-Anne, competed against girls up to 4 years her senior, and ran a blistering 25.71 seconds (new 12 Years Queensland record) for her 200m!
Amber and Hayley produced strong performances in their respective sprints and Jade broke the 30m barrier to finish 3rd in her Javelin event.
Our girls medley relay (Tanika, Bailee-Anne, Francesca & Sayla) ran a very competitive 3rd in the Swedish relay (200m; 200m; 400m; 800m).
The King’s girls combined results placed them 4th in Australia out of the 10 competing schools, which was an outstanding result and gave them the fuel to aim for a national medal at the 2019 National Schools Nitro team challenge!

Invite your friends and family and join us for an unforgettable evening. Feast on a beautiful dinner and dance the incredible night away.
