Year 6 students have been exploring the topic of Government through their Project Based Learning this term - specifically, how a country develops and changes through political influences.
At the culminating event, the audience viewed the persuasive speaking skills of our students who were addressing political problems in our very own King’s Parliament. Throughout the two sitting sessions our school community experienced informative parliamentary debates, visual media presentations, political reporter discussions and0 interviews. At the end of each session the viewing gallery had the opportunity to have their vote counted by our election scrutineers at the King’s Parliament ballot boxes. These Parliamentary sittings were live streamed to the King’s community who had the opportunity to view and read our bloggers discussions on each topic during each sitting.
We are extremely proud of all of our Year 6 students who each played a part in this innovative culminating event. Everything that was presented in person, viewed and read online was created by our students
- Mr Jordan Peters, Year 6 Lead Teacher
Our Pre Preps are another week closer to starting school! King's Pre Preps are well prepared for the transition with regular interactions with big school activities. Visits to the library to read with Year 3 students and playing games with High School students builds relationships between all ages across our campus.
It wasn't too many months ago that our Preps were embarking on their own new journey at school. Fast forward to term 3 and our Preps took the lead showing their younger PrePrep friends all around their classrooms.
The annual PrePrep sports morning is a fun introduction to house spirit. Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who joined us for a morning of outdoor fun. Our Primary and Middle School leaders encouraged King's youngest athletes as they had a little taste of the fun to come at sports carnivals. Wearing their house colours, our Pre Preps enjoyed egg and spoon races, shopping relays, an obstacle course and running races. We have a bright sporting future as the class of 2032 continue to develop their skills to represent King's in the years to come.
The King's String Orchestra, led by Mr Ryan Chislett, performed extremely well at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod and received 3rd place. The pieces they performed were “Inverno” by Vivaldi and the “1812 Overture” by Tchaikovsky. Congratulations to our King’s String Orchestra Performers!
King’s String Beginners performed on the same day at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod, led by Mr Ryan Chislett. The King’s String Beginners group is made up of students from both our Reedy Creek and Pimpama campuses who continued on from the Year 3 and 4 music immersion program. Whilst these children are not part of an ensemble, Mr Chislett decided to enter them into the Eisteddfod and they performed very well placing 3rd in their category. We are very proud of this achievement!
Our Junior Concert band, also know ‘Jonah’s Juniors’, also participated in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod where they performed “Dragon slayer” by Rob Grice, “Supercalafragilisticexpialidocious” arranged by Michael Sweeney and “Geronimo” by Brian West.
In the Primary School Concert band section, our Jonah's Juniors placed Highly Commended. Well done to the band for your fine performances!
- Instrumental Music Teachers
The Instrumental Music department took centre stage in the last week of term with three nights of great music from our budding musicians. For many of our young performers this was their very first opportunity of a public performance – such a privilege for the audience. The more experienced students showcased their talents, hard work and dedication to their craft with some outstanding playing, inspiring and enthralling the audience. We are blessed to have so many students performing at such a high level of musicianship.
Mrs Shelton and Mrs Hardman presented the Woodwind performers on Monday evening. Mrs Edwards and Mr Chislett brought a showcase of Strings on Tuesday evening, with Mrs Wheatley and Mr Lee rounding off the three nights with Brass and Percussion performances.
Thank you, students, for your lovely performances. It’s wonderful to watch the musical development of our students and provide opportunities for them to shine in the spotlight.
- Lindsay Genge, Instrumental Music Coordinator
