A sea of colour washed over our Year 3 classrooms on the last Tuesday of Term 2, as our students dressed up to represent a variety of countries from around the world as a part of their Integrated Studies unit entitled Celebrating Culture and Community. Our much-loved annual Multicultural Day was a culmination of the cohort's Term 2 studies, and throughout the day, students were immersed in a range of exciting activities from making Chinese lanterns, masks and origami, to enjoying a range of multicultural dances.
As part of the unit, students investigated a variety of indigenous cultures from around the world including Maori, Maasai, Inuit, Ainu and Amazonian cultures. They used their research skills to discover facts and to reflect on how these cultures are similar and different to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. The students also created a digital project about their chosen culture, which they presented to their classmates. As part of this unit, students also considered how King’s Kids can show God’s love by respecting and supporting other cultures throughout His incredible world.
King’s is passionate about Music Education and the development of Music, because of its many cognitive benefits for students. Our Year 3 cohort began their journey into Instrumental Music in Week 1 this term, where they were provided with their own guitar or keyboard which they will learn throughout Semester 2. Our Executive Principal, Mr Davis, showed his support for this program by providing the funding for all of these brand new instruments, which the students will be able to keep at the conclusion of the program. Our future worship leaders are in the making!

Instrumental Music Coordinator
In the last week of Term 2, our Year 5 students invited the King's community to view the tjanpi-inspired animals they had created in their Art lessons throughout the term. Their exhibition entitled Where the Wild Things Are depicted their handcrafted animals residing in their natural habitat, and the Year 5s gave regular guided tours to share what they had learned throughout the creative process.
Noah’s Ark students were invited to the exhibit as special guests, and they were all very excited to be given a tour and taught how to make tjanpi animals by the Year 5 students. At the conclusion of their excursion, they were each gifted with a small tjanpi animal to keep. It was definitely a highlight for the Year 5s and Noah's Ark students as they celebrated a great term's work!
Four seasons' weather in two days saw blue skies change to black, as our resilient High School students competed through the unpredictable conditions during their 2021 Athletics Carnival at Griffith University. The exciting event showcased the skill and dedication of the College's more experienced competitors as well as the Year 7 athletes, who embraced their inaugural High School Athletics Carnival.
Our handicap King's Gift Race capped off the incredible two-day event, as our fastest 100m sprinters from each age group competed in the cherished annual College tradition which has seen some incredible times recorded. Congratulations to our 2021 Champion, Fernando Nash (Year 11), followed by Blake Byers (Year 8) in second place and Aidan Maguire (Year 9) in third. Congratulations to every 2021 Carnival winner for your hard work and commitment to achieve exceptional results and set new records, and to every student who gave their best and contributed to our College culture.
House rivalry was strong throughout this year's High School Athletics Carnival but our students from TYNDALE proved too tough to beat and reigned victorious after an exceptional display of House Spirit and athletic strength throughout the competition. Congratulations TYNDALE!

The Queensland School Futsal Championships were held over two days in late June, and as the first of its kind it had the full backing of football Queensland. There were 24 teams in each division of the tournament, including two King's teams (one male and one female team) who were both seeded in the highest division. King's boys were undefeated throughout the tournament and their exciting Semifinal and Grand Final matches went into extra time. King's boys successfully won the entire tournament to place 1st in Queensland, while King's girls achieved an impressive 3rd overall in Queensland to bring home the Bronze medal. Congratulations King's!
During Week 7 and 8 of Term 2, our Japanese language students participated in the Australian Olympic Connect Tomodachi (friends) 2021 program. We had a very exciting opportunity to communicate with Year 8 Japanese students from Minami Ikeda Junior High School via Live. Our Year 7 students were able to introduce themselves and ask questions using the studied vocabulary. Our Year 10 students described the Gold Coast and exchanged opinions. Kings' students and the Japanese students asked questions in both languages. This program will promote the value of cross-cultural friendships and we are hoping to continually build a positive relationship between our two countries in the future.
King's high school teachers have warmly welcomed students back for what promises to be an action-packed Term 3. We hope all families enjoyed their break and were able to spend some precious time with friends and family. This term, we are excited to welcome 17 new students to our high school community and are so pleased these families have chosen King’s for their education. We pray these new students are already feeling settled into their classes and starting to make friends.
During the holidays, Semester One Academic Reports were released for all parents of Years 7 - 10 students. We encourage parents to discuss the school reports at home, and assist their children in setting some goals around diligence, seeking and responding to feedback, and grades for Semester Two. Year 11 and 12 received an End of Unit Report at the conclusion of Term 1, followed by results directly released via Compass throughout Terms 2 and 3. Again, it is very helpful to take some time to look at your child’s results and discuss their progress.
Our Partnership Evening was a great opportunity for teacher and parent conversations about students, and their academic endeavours. These online discussions enabled parents to ask questions about progress, learn about upcoming assessment and get ideas about how their child could improve.
Does your child have questions about homework or assignments?

Year 11 students, Luke Johnstone and Max Graham, both successfully won First Place trophies at the 2021 Gold Coast Composer's Competition during the semester break. This was an exceptional achievement for both boys especially as it was their first piano composition and first music competition.
Luke competed against other young Gold Coast composers in the 15 - 17 years All Instruments category, with his composition entitled 'For Those Who Don't Return.' Max competed against composers from across Queensland in the 15 - 17 years All Instruments category, with his composition titled 'Hero's Journey.' The event was presented by the Gold Coast chapter of the Queensland Music Teachers' Association and both pianists performed their compositions live to an adjudicating panel and audience.
Dr Christina Churchill has been teaching the boys how to compose during their piano and composition lessons for the past five months. Max is now focusing on recording a song to submit for the Triple J Unearthed High later this month, and both students will be entering new piano compositions they are working on for the Young Composers' Competition that will take place in September.

Junior Landcare Grants have been awarded to primary schools and early learning centres across Australia with the aim of inspiring students through sustainable food production projects focusing on sustainable food production, improving waste management practices and enhancing native habitats.
