The exciting program of award presentations, lively performances on the big stage and community fun, ensured there was never a dull moment as we celebrated our Prep - Year 11 students across many aspects of school life. King's 19th Annual Sports Awards
10 November 2021
King's prestigious annual Sports Awards Evening recognises and rewards students and teams who have shown outstanding commitment, character and excellence in sport during the year. Our College and dedicated Sports Department continually works to champion every sport and student, and our 19th Annual Sports Awards event was a wonderful celebration of King's collective 2021 success. COVID continued to disrupt sporting competitions throughout this year, with some events cancelled, some moved to different dates or locations, all national school competitions cancelled, and athletics events majorly affected for the second year in a row. Despite the fluid changes, our students showed remarkable resilience, determination and perseverance to push through and help King’s achieve some of the best results on record. Throughout the evening, parents and family members, watched on as the students received special awards for a number of outstanding achievements. The audience was also entertained throughout the event with a special live performance from music duo - Bo'Ness [who performed on The Voice], enjoyed a lively Kahoot Quiz and a range of sporting highlight videos from the year.

Primary Christmas Missions Festival
9 November 2021
'Tis the season to be generous as we open our hearts (and wallets) and give gifts to those we care about. At King's, our heart of generosity extends beyond the campus year-round, to reach those less fortunate. This time of year can be particularly challenging for many Gold Coast families as they are financially stretched beyond their limits and struggle to feed their children. Our College is pleased to partner with King's Care every year to support their Christmas Hamper program, which creates and distributes hundreds of food hampers to local families in need. This week our Primary LIFE team ran a Christmas Festival Missions dress-up day and fundraiser lunch. It was heartwarming to see the community spirit of our school come to life as our primary students enjoyed festive dress-up fun, tasty treats and the chance to bring their small change to make a big difference for many people this Christmas. We want to acknowledge and honour the tireless work of our Primary and High School LIFE teams who bring the fun to fundraising and helped us collectively raise thousands for missions this year. Go King's!

Noah's Ark End of Year Concert
11 November 2021
Noah’s Ark raised the festive spirit at King's on Wednesday evening by hosting their special end of year Christmas Concert in the church, followed by a picnic dinner. They dialled up the cute factor, with three heart-warming performances from our youngest King’s kids. This was the first time on stage for many Noah's Ark children, and they showed great courage as they sang their little hearts out to an audience of proud parents. As our Pre Prep students prepare to begin their primary school journey next year, it was the perfect chance to come together as an Early Learning community and see how much these amazing young people have already grown in their God-given gifts and developed in self-confidence. Thank you to our special guests, young performers and Noah's Ark team, for helping to make this such a memorable occasion!

2021 APS Primary Athletics | 2nd Place for King's!
10 November 2021
After a long three month delay, due to COVID, our Primary Athletics team finally had the opportunity to compete in the APS 9-12 Years Athletics Carnival at the Runaway Bay Athletics Performance Centre on Thursday, 28 October. Our College had a very successful carnival with many of our athletes leaving the track and field events with multiple medals, helping King's win 2nd PLACE overall!
Round 1: The day began with the perfect start, with Knox Anderson and Isaac Schwarz running a gutsy 1st and 2nd Place in the 9 Years Boys 800m! Immediately following was another strong win by Abby Coetzee in the 9 Years Girls 800m. Kebe Stanford-Modini also delivered a crushing 800m victory with her daring front-running in the 12 Years Girls 800m! While our 800m runners were impressing, our field athletes were also spectacular. The dynamic duo of Chelsea Capps and Nylah Goble-Lote were unstoppable as they finished 1st and 2nd in the 12 Years Discus, with both of their throws doubling the distance of 3rd Place! Zion Marsden also dominated the 11 Years Boys Shot Put with a strong win!
Round 2 (Field events only): Our highlight from Round 2 was Nylah Goble-Lote winning the 12 Years Girls Shot Put. Nylah established a new APS record with a distance of 11.76m, with teammate, Alyssa McDonald finishing in 2nd Place and gaining maximum points for King’s! Judah Marsden was also impressive in the 12 Years Boys Shot Put, finishing a strong 2nd Place, and Jordan Pollard jumped his way into 3rd Place in the 10 Years Boys High Jump.
Round 3 Track: Our King’s 200m runners also impressed - a testament to their consistent tough training sessions with Mr Muir and Miss Tanika Mahon. Our 9 Years Boys and girls shone with Makyra Melo and Abby Coetzee finishing 2nd and 3rd. Asher Whitaker dominated the 9 Years Boys, winning by almost a full second, with training partner Archer Donovan finishing an impressive 3rd. Alyssa MacDonald and Chelsea Capps ran 2nd and 3rd in the 12 Years Girls, and our 12 Year Boys competitors lit up the track with Manny Paelay and Connor Rivallo-Griffin running 1st and 2nd, split by only 0.20 of a second, yet over a second ahead of 3rd place!
Round 3 Field: Sam Butler was equal 2nd in the 11 Boys high jump. Lincoln Mehta was an impressive 3rd in the 9 Years Boys Discus, and Charlotte Lawry and Manny Paelay both finished 2nd in the 12 Years Long Jump.

Round 5: Our King’s 100m runners impressed, starting with our 9 Years Boys (Asher Whitaker, Archer Donovan, Tatenda Marinic and Lincoln Mehta) winning all four divisions of the 9 Years 100m. Makyra Melo finished 2nd in the 9 Years Girls 100m. Nayan Jaglan was the fastest 10 year old boy of the day, with his training partner, Adam Abra only 0.10 of a second behind him, finishing 4th fastest of the day. Alyssa MacDonald and Chelsea Capps finished 2nd and 3rd in the combined A and B divisions, with Charlotte Lawry and Kebe Stanford-Modini also winning their respective divisions. In the 12 Years Boys 100m, Manny Paelay brought the lightning followed by Connor Rivallo-Griffin bringing the thunder as they ran 1st and 2nd in the overall places. Round 5 field highlights for King’s was Archer Donovan jumping 2nd Place in the 9 Years Boys Long Jump!
Relays: Our King’s relay teams were outstanding with our 9 Years Boys, 12 Years boys and 12 years girls all having dominant wins! Our King’s 12 Years Girls and 9 Years Boys both set new APS records. The last event of the day was the mixed 9-12 Years 8 x 100m which showcased our King’s sprinting talent with an impressive win for King’s and a new APS record!

Year 6's High School Orientation
9 November 2021
Our Year 6 students' primary school journey is drawing to an end and emotions are running high, but as they experienced their first taste of high school life during our High School Orientation this week, it was great to see them grow in confidence and excitement for the year ahead. It was also wonderful to welcome Year 6 students from a number of other primary schools, who will be joining our King's community for high school in 2022. The cohort came together for a program of fun and informative activities to help them feel better prepared for Year 7. Every new student was paired with a current student and spent the morning in their House groups learning to read timetables, use locker padlocks and familiarise themselves with King’s campus during a lively scavenger hunt. It was great to see the comradery and maturity of the students who are almost ready for the next exciting milestone in their learning journey.
Year 3s Wild Excursion
5 November 2021
The Year 3 classes were excited to visit David Fleay Wildlife Park on Monday, as part of their Living and Non-Living Science unit. As they dodged the rain, students explored a variety of Australian native animals in their natural habitats, including wallabies, dingoes, cassowaries, emus and many fascinating species of birds. They enjoyed visiting the nocturnal enclosure, home to the Platypus, Bilby, a variety of snakes, the Spinifex Hopping Mouse and many more intriguing creatures!
The Year 3s were given an informative presentation from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers, where they asked thoughtful questions and listened intently. Students had the chance to get up close to some cuddly wildlife at the Koala educational talk. They were introduced to a rescued possum at the Nalu Theatre and meeting Casper, the Barn Owl, was a definite favourite for many! Some students even spotted the resident Estuarine Crocodiles, Queen and Smiley, who belong to a species renowned for being the largest of all living reptiles. Another highlight was the Flight Show, where the large birds of prey amazed the audience with their spectacular wingspans as well as their speed and accuracy at snatching food whilst in mid-air. The Year 3s were even entertained by a dancing Brolga! This wonderful day out was definitely an engaging and memorable experience for all students.
A big thank you to the amazing parent volunteers who accompanied us on our excursion. These special outings would not be possible without your generous support!

5 November 2021
Our College eagerly participates in the Premier's Reading Challenge each year to help promote a lifelong love of literacy. The State-wide program encourages students to enjoy a wide range of books as they work towards reading a set number of books for their Challenge age group. The Premier's Reading Challenge is not a competition to find out who can read the most books but it is about helping young readers set a reading goal so that they will establish regular and positive reading habits. Congratulations to our Prep - Year 4 students who participated this year and received their Certificate of Achievement, signed by the Queensland Premier, during their Week 5 library lessons.

Over the last two weeks, our senior library hosted a 'Book Tasting' for our Year 5 & 6 students to expand their reading palate. The 'Book Tasting' gave them the opportunity to engage in reading, while familiarising them with a wide variety of genres and books they might not have considered in the past. Year 6 students were given a 'Taste' of our Middle School fiction books, ready for Year 7 next year. We enjoy coming up with new and creative ways to encourage our students to read and experience the love of literacy.
