King's Academic Excellence - Da Vinci Decathlon Teams from Reedy Creek, Pimpama, and Logan Village recently represented King’s Christian College at both the regional and state da Vinci Decathlon competitions as part of our new Academic Excellence Initiative. Over the past two weeks, these students achieved commendable results across a variety of challenging disciplines.
The da Vinci Decathlon is a prestigious academic competition named after Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519), one of the world’s greatest thinkers and scholars. Renowned for his ability to perceive the interconnectedness of knowledge, da Vinci approached learning with lifelong passion and an unrelenting curiosity to explore the unknown. Reflecting his legacy, the competition places a strong emphasis on higher-order thinking skills, problem solving, and creativity.
Students competed in teams of eight across ten disciplines: engineering, mathematics and chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography, and legacy.
Participation in the da Vinci Decathlon provides high-performing students with opportunities to extend their learning beyond the regular school curriculum and to collaborate with like-minded peers from across the state. It challenges them to think critically, work creatively under pressure, and apply knowledge across a range of subject areas in innovative ways.
This inaugural group of students has set a strong benchmark as we launch our Academic Excellence Initiative, showcasing the talent, curiosity, and dedication thriving across our campuses.

Year 10 Geography – Sea World experience
31 May 2025
On the 16th of May, the 10 Geography class embarked on a trip to SeaWorld to discover more about marine ecosystems and how they are affected by human development. The purpose of this trip was for the class to have firsthand experience on how coral reef ecosystems interact by taking part in the Sea World tropical reef snorkel experience. The class was able to undertake this experience with minds open to learning and curiosity of ecosystems while simultaneously enjoying swimming with the sea life.
This trip was sparked by the assessment for this term in which the students were able to choose an impact area on any marine ecosystem. The impact could be a natural impact or a man-made one that has worsened over time to become a major problem to the ecosystem. Through the research conducted for this assessment, the impact humans are having on the environment is immense and is now affecting us. The CO2 emissions along with other greenhouse gases are continuing to rise, causing ocean acidification. This was but one of the topics discussed on the trip which enlightened us to the impact that mundane everyday tasks are having on our environment.
All in all, the trip was an enlightening experience which we will carry into our assessment whilst never forgetting about swimming with the turtle and other reef creatures.

Year 2 Excursion to Hinze Dam
2 June 2025
Exploring Water Wonders
Our Year 2 students recently embarked on a fascinating journey to explore God’s patterns and the laws of nature in our unit, ‘Why Worry About Water’. To gain a deeper understanding of these vital concepts, we travelled to the stunning Gold Coast Hinterland for an educational tour at Hinze Dam, organized by Seqwater.
Hinze Dam, located approximately 15 kilometers southwest of Nerang, serves as a crucial source of drinking water for many of our King’s families. Our adventure began with a very informative walk along the top of the dam wall, where we were greeted with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and trees, and the vast expanse of the lake.
After a quick snack break, we ventured down the hill to the Spillway, which provided a perfect backdrop for some memorable class photos.
The day continued with hands-on experiments that sharpened our Scientific Investigation skills. We explored concepts such as water purification and engaged in discussions about the water cycle. These activities sparked practical ideas on how to conserve our precious water resources.
Our adventure concluded with a tranquil walk through the rainforest and parklands. Refreshed and inspired, we boarded the bus, eager to return to King’s with our newfound knowledge and ideas on how to be ‘Water-Wise’.
This excursion not only enriched our understanding of water’s significance but also instilled a deeper appreciation for the natural world. It was a day filled with learning and discovery.
King’s Shines at Readers Cup
31 May 2025
On Wednesday, 28 May 2025, five enthusiastic Year 6 students - Evie F, Abbey S, Gigi S, Evelyn N, and Nyamat G - represented our school at the Gold Coast Readers Cup competition. Held at Hillcrest Christian College, this annual event brings together teams from across the region to test their literary knowledge and comprehension skills.
The Readers Cup, organised by the Children's Book Council of Australia, is a state-wide competition where students read a set list of books and then compete in a quiz format against other schools in their region. It's designed to challenge students to read widely and work collaboratively, fostering a deeper appreciation for literature.
This year's reading list included the following titles:
11 Ruby Road: 1900 by Charlotte Barkla
Age of Enchantment: Chronicles of Whetherwhy #1 by Anna James
All the Beautiful Things by Katrina Nannestad
The Kindness Project by Deborah Abela
Scar Town by Tristan Bancks
Our team dedicated countless hours to reading and discussing these books, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and a passion for literature. Their commitment and enthusiasm were evident throughout the competition, and they should be commended for their outstanding effort and representation of our school.
We are incredibly proud of Evie, Abbey, Gigi, Evelyn, and Nyamat for their dedication and achievement.
Well done, girls.
MP Michael Crandon visits Year 6 Students
31 May 2025
On Tuesday 13 May, we got to see Michael Crandon share about his role as an MP in state parliament. It was a very good way for students to learn about politics. We learnt that it is not easy doing Michael Crandon’s job and it influenced a lot of people in Year Six.
I mostly enjoyed when he told us about his daily schedule because he was very funny when he shared it, but it also sounds like he does a lot everyday. We are grateful to Michael Crandon for coming and answering our questions.

Year 10 Game Design Showcase
31 May 2025
The Year 10 Game Making Assessment is an exciting project where students are tasked with creating a game using SwiftUI.
This assessment helps students learn and apply various SwiftUI functionalities, such as stacks, buttons, images, and alerts. Additionally, students are encouraged to incorporate advanced features such as parent and child stacks, physics and collision, conditional statements, and user stories.
These advanced features not only enhance the user experience but also provide students with a deeper understanding of SwiftUI's capabilities and best practices. This assessment aligns with the ACARA standard elaborations by promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. It encourages students to apply their knowledge in practical scenarios, enhancing their understanding of programming concepts and user interface design. The project also supports the development of digital literacy and computational thinking, which are key components of the ACARA standards.
Below are three student submissions. Click the link on the students name to play their game screen recording.
In week 6 King's took the Year 7–8 s Netball team to compete in the two-day INFQ Netball Carnival. Competing against 17 schools, our girls displayed remarkable skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the event.
After a series of hard-fought matches, the team finished 2nd in their pool and went on to place 4th overall, a fantastic result! The girls made it through to the semi-finals, where they narrowly missed out on a spot in the grand final. Recognised for More Than Skill As we were preparing to leave the carnival, another school unable to play in their preliminary final specifically asked if King’s could take their place. Their coach highlighted not only our girls’ impressive level of play, but also their sportsmanship, kindness, and integrity. It was a testament to the way our students embody the King’s Foundational Values both on and off the court.
Although the team was ultimately defeated in the preliminary final, the coaches and spectators commended the girls for their conduct, resilience, and grace under pressure. Well done, girls we’re proud of each and every one of you!

Junior Council: Youth Leading Change
31 May 2025
Earlier this term we attended our second Junior Council meeting for the year. So far, this was my favourite one. When we arrived at the Broadbeach Cultural Centre we were greeted by warm smiles and familiar faces. There were numerous pop-up stalls from many Gold Coast government departments, such as GC Have Your Say and GC Natural Disasters. We were then ushered into a big hall and welcomed by the Junior Council Board Members. We then got to walk around the centre and see all the pop-ups. They wanted the youth’s opinion on how to make the Gold Coast better. There were some pop-ups about landfill and recycling, the arts and culture, nature and community, and career opportunities. I love hearing what inspired them to help the Gold Coast community. My favourite part was getting little souvenirs such as bags, glasses, and lollies.
After morning tea, we went back inside and did the second activity, where we had to make a coat of arms using qualities a good leader should have. We then did my favourite activity, the discussion panel with the current Gold Coast Councillors.
Twelve Junior Council Members were chosen to ask questions. The topics we discussed was around: 🏠 the housing crisis, 🙋♂️ lack of volunteering, 🔒security measures, and, 🚨how youth crime is tarnishing our reputation.
Everyone was involved; the councillors loved hearing our opinions and asked questions so they could know what to improve on. We ended the session by having a little dessert break with brownies, doughnuts, and caramel slices.
As I spent more time engaging in this opportunity, I feel more grateful. We are so focused on our personal and school lives that we can forget to connect with our community. However, I have realised that we are all here because we want to make an impact on our community by being better leaders. The more I interacted with the other members, the more I feel inspired.
I know this sounds cliché but, genuinely, being a leader doesn’t need a badge; you only need the qualities of one. I always thought that you needed certain accomplishments and had to reach a higher status to get a leadership position because that is how they usually work. One thing I love is that we, as the youth of the Gold Coast, are being considered and are given opportunities to say what type of Gold Coast we want to live in. It gives us a sense of pride as we are making an impact on our home, making us feel like leaders helping guide the Gold Coast. I am so excited for the other meetings ahead, and hopefully, this will inspire more students to consider the role they want to play in their community.

National Simultaneous Storytime 2025
31 May 2025
The National Simultaneous Storytime is an event held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association to promote the value of reading.
Every year an Australian picture book is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, childcare centres, homes, and bookshops around the country. This year’s story was The Truck Cat written by Deborah Frenkel and Illustrated by Danny Snell. The Truck Cat was a heart-warming story about finding home wherever you are, and explores themes of kindness, identity and the difficulties of an immigrant navigating their way in a new country. The beautiful message in this story was enjoyed by students from Prep to Grade 6, with each age group able to get something different out of the story.
It was a joy to see our students so engaged with this year’s story. We hope it sparks many more conversations and a lifelong love of reading.

Mega Chapel Moved Us—Now It’s Our Turn
31 May 2025
Citipointe's recent Mega Chapel event was absolutely unforgettable! From the moment I walked in, there was a sense of excitement and expectancy in the air, and it only grew stronger as the night went on. Worship was powerful—hearing hundreds of voices from schools across Brisbane and the Gold Coast, lifted in unity to praise Jesus, was honestly overwhelming in the best way. It felt like heaven touched Earth for a moment. I saw people around me completely surrendered, and I felt the same – God’s love surrounded the room so tangibly. I know that night I encountered God in a real way.
What stood out to me most was how clearly Jesus’ love was reflected in every part of the night. There was a deep sense of belonging and freedom in His presence, and it reminded me that age doesn’t limit how God can use someone. It was so inspiring to see young people lead with boldness and faith – it stirred something in me and reminded me that revival starts now, not “someday.” I walked away with my heart full. I am confident the rest of the students who attended felt the same, with the bus ride back to school filled with worship jams.
I absolutely loved every moment of Mega Chapel! I loved seeing how many young people were involved, passionately using their gifts to lead and minister. Whether it was through worship, tech, prayer, or just the way they welcomed others, you could tell God was moving powerfully through them. I’m so thankful for nights like these where we get to come together, lift up Jesus, leave completely changed, and with the built up strength, confidence and belief to run our own Mega Chapel in our own authentic way! If you’re in Year 10, 11 & 12, keep an eye on Compass for registration for Pimpama’s own Mega Chapel, taking place on Wednesday 18 June.
