On Monday, 23 February, the Year 5 students at King’s Pimpama had the privilege of welcoming special guest Garnet Sweeney, Group Maintenance Manager for King’s. Mr Sweeney shared his expertise and gave students a fascinating insight into how our campus has been carefully designed to help mitigate the impact of severe weather events, including flooding.
Students learned about the important role of our campus’s natural resources, particularly the bio basin, wetland areas, and creek systems. Mr Sweeney explained how these features work together to collect, slow, and safely redirect excess rainwater. These natural systems not only help protect our school from flooding but also support local wildlife and contribute to a healthy environment. In addition to natural resources, students explored the capital resources involved in creating and maintaining these systems.
Mr Sweeney described the specialised tools and machinery used by his team to build and care for these areas, helping students understand the planning and effort required behind the scenes. Importantly, students also learned about human resources and the vital role Mr Sweeney’s maintenance team plays. His team regularly monitors, maintains, and improves these systems to ensure they continue to function effectively, especially during heavy rain events.
This visit provided a valuable real-world connection to our Year 5 learning about resources and sustainability. Students were highly engaged and asked thoughtful questions about how our school prepares for extreme weather.
We sincerely thank Mr Sweeney for giving his time and helping our students gain a deeper appreciation of the planning, teamwork, and care that help keep our school safe.

As a part of the QLD School Library Week celebrations, King’s Christian College participated in the art competition run by the QLD School Libraries Association.

A big congratulations again to all our winners, and we wish the best of luck to Kayla, Lucian and Lacey in the next round of the competition!

Our Year 12 Camp at Lake Ainsworth was a significant milestone for our graduating class. Set against the coast and the distinctive tea-tree lake, the time away provided space to strengthen friendships, embrace challenge and reflect on the year ahead.
Students participated in sailing and water initiatives that required teamwork, resilience and clear communication. Beach games brought energy and friendly competition, with leadership and encouragement evident throughout the cohort.
A key component of camp was the intentional time set aside each night for devotions. There was a noticeable depth to these moments. Many students spoke about encountering God in a genuine and personal way, not through hype, but through stillness, honesty and community. The opportunity to pause, listen and reflect together created space for conversations and commitments that will continue well beyond camp.
The split-gender Q&A sessions further strengthened this foundation, providing a respectful and thoughtful environment to explore relationships, character and future direction. Students approached these discussions with maturity and openness.
The much-loved Garbage Bag Formal was, as always, a highlight of the week. Armed with nothing but garbage bags and creativity, students designed and modelled impressive outfits, bringing humour, originality and confidence to the evening.
Above all, the camp strengthened the sense of connection within the Year 12 group and left a lasting impact as they move forward together into their final year.

This week, Acting Mayor Councillor Mark Hammel swore in the 2026 Junior Council Executive Committee at the Council Chambers.
Congratulations to our very own Year 11 student, Sejal Verma, who has been appointed as the Deputy Junior Mayor.
Sejal and the 2026 executive team will lead this year’s Junior Council, which consists of 150 Year 10 and Year 11 students from 40 high schools across the Gold Coast.
The Junior Council program provides students with the opportunity to learn about local government, develop skills in public speaking and networking, and enhance their leadership abilities.

Our College Captains visited Parliament House this week as part of the Christian Schools Australia Compass Conference. They heard from some Christian MPs regarding how their faith influences their leadership, and also attended Question Time.
After question time, they had the chance to sit with Member for Fadden, Cameron Caldwell MP.
In a culture where we are encouraged to quickly move on to the next thing, it was great to hear the students continuing to ruminate on the parallels between parliamentary representation and their own role as leaders of a specific area, which is part of a bigger team of leaders, and again part of a larger organisation.
On Monday, 2 March, Year 12 students attended a Uni Showcase in the auditorium and forecourt. It was an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about the universities and courses available to them as they prepare for their future.
The Uni Showcase began with presentations from representatives of various local universities, including Bond University, QUT, The University of Queensland, Griffith University and more.
The Uni Showcase was an excellent opportunity for Year 12 students to start exploring their options for the future. They were able to learn more about the different universities and get a better understanding of what courses are available to them.

Our students proudly represented the school at the Beach Volleyball State Schools Cup, held over two action-packed days at beautiful Coolangatta Beach. Competing in one of the largest beach volleyball tournaments in the Southern Hemisphere, our four teams demonstrated resilience, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship against strong competition from across the state.
Year 8 Girls Fours – 12th Place Milah K, Molly S, Jordyn S, Anushka S and Maddie S showed incredible determination throughout the tournament. For all, this was their first experience at a volleyball competition of this scale, with many also being in Year 7, they rose to the challenge, finishing 12th overall.
Year 10 Boys Fours, Stevie O, Dominic K, Rudraansh C, Kye H and Chase M competed fiercely across both days. The team demonstrated significant growth across the tournament, taking valuable experience away from the event.
Year 11 Boys Fours – 5th Place Steven X, Sam R, Eli K and Scott M delivered an exceptional performance, finishing 5th overall. Their consistency, communication and competitive mindset were highlights of the tournament.
Year 12 Boys Fours – 7th Place Roman K, Navjot D, Matt D and Lachlan W finished a strong 7th, showcasing composure and leadership throughout their matches.
Across the board, our students represented the school with pride both on and off the sand. We congratulate all players on their efforts and look forward to building on this success in future competitions.

Our Netball Excellence girls have been working hard in our brand‑new gym!
