Encouraging A Lifelong Love Of Reading
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is now underway for students from Prep to Year 9. This statewide initiative encourages students to develop a lifelong love of reading while strengthening literacy, imagination, and confidence.
To successfully complete the challenge, students are required to read or experience:
Prep to Year 2: 20 books
Years 3 and 4: 20 books
Years 5 to 9: 15 books
The reading period runs until 28 August, with record forms due to the library by 4 September. Record forms can be collected from the library throughout the challenge. We encourage all students to take part, set personal reading goals, and enjoy exploring a variety of books suited to their interests and reading level. Families can support their children by reading together, discussing books, and celebrating their progress along the way.
A Special Message to our Mums from our students!
What a beautiful morning celebrating our mums across the primary campus. From shared coffees and conversations to thoughtful handmade gifts and special classroom moments, it was a joy to welcome so many families together.
We are so grateful for the love, strength, and care our mums pour into their children each day.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” Proverbs 31:25

Staying Active And Healthy Together
More than 300 members of our school community came together for National Walk Safely To School Day alongside our Active School Travel Park & Stride event.
From early in the morning, Gainsborough Parklands was filled with energy as students and families arrived on foot, scooters, and bikes, or parked nearby and joined the walk to school together. Students enjoyed a well-earned sausage sizzle while parents connected over coffee before the school day began.
A special thank you to our Active School Travel Student Committee and all families who supported the event. The morning was a valuable reminder of the positive impact active travel can have on wellbeing, connection, and building a healthy school community.
Earlier this term, 30 students and 7 staff travelled to St George for a five-day missions trip, partnering with the local community through outreach, practical service, school programs, and church ministry.
Students supported local residents through manual labour projects, connected with students from St George State High School, and helped lead the Friday night youth event, Wildfire, which welcomed around 100 attendees.
Throughout the week, students stepped into opportunities to lead worship, share testimonies, and serve during the Sunday church service. The experience encouraged students to grow in faith, confidence, and servant-hearted leadership while strengthening relationships within the team and broader community.
Scott M. (Year 10) shared:
“My favourite part of the trip was visiting the school and building connections with the students there. Another highlight was witnessing two of my peers get baptised. The trip brought us closer together as friends and strengthened our understanding of serving others.”
Ella-Grace G. (Year 11) reflected:
“One of my favourite parts was visiting the schools and connecting with the students there. I was also honoured to speak at a church service, which became an experience I will never forget. The trip helped all of us grow closer together while serving others and creating memories that will stay with me for a long time.”

Celebrating Creativity, Curiosity And Academic Excellence
A number of our talented students recently represented the College at the Da Vinci Decathlon, an academic competition designed to challenge both critical and creative thinking.
Students demonstrated outstanding creativity, perseverance, and problem-solving skills across disciplines including Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Art & Poetry, and Code Breaking. The competition provided a valuable opportunity to collaborate with like-minded peers and to apply their knowledge in innovative and engaging ways.
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and commitment to excellence displayed by all students involved.

Students Rise To The Challenge
A small group of King’s students recently competed in the Regional World Scholar’s Cup, demonstrating resilience, teamwork, and courage throughout the competition.
Students tackled unfamiliar questions, strict time limits, and strong competition from across Queensland while continuing to encourage and support one another throughout the event. We congratulate our students on their outstanding effort and the way they represented the College with excellence.
They discovered new levels of confidence in themselves and each other, earning 13 individual medals in debating and writing, and qualifying for the Global Round in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, later this year.

Inspiring Students To Lead With Purpose
Our students from Years 10 and 11 recently attended the Impact Youth Summit, where they heard from motivational speakers sharing stories of resilience, leadership, and personal growth.
The experience encouraged students to reflect on stepping outside their comfort zones, embracing opportunities, and making a positive impact within their communities.
Parm K. (Year 11) shared:“Impact was honestly such an inspiring experience for me. Hearing from passionate speakers encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, get involved, and think more about how I can positively impact the people around me.”
Prabh (Year 11) reflected:“My biggest takeaway was the importance of mindset, backing yourself, and taking opportunities even when things feel uncomfortable or uncertain.”

Thank you to everyone who donated and supported the day. A big shoutout to those who brought delicious treats, from homemade fudge to Biscoff cheesecake and Hungry Caterpillar cupcakes, there was something for everyone 🧁
Together, we’ve helped Cancer Council raise important funds for vital research, support services, prevention programs and advocacy. Our families raised an incredible $2,774, well above our $1,000 goal, which really shows the generosity of our King’s families and staff 💛 Donations are still open if you would like to support this important cause click here.
A special thank you to Mrs Erasmus and Mrs Dos for organising such a beautiful event in honour of a special friend. We’re so grateful for this wonderful community

Living Purposefully Through Sports Excellence
Earlier this term, our Year 9 Sports Excellence students participated in a dedicated fitness testing session delivered in partnership with Motion Health Rehab & Performance.

We commend students for their effort, attitude, and willingness to challenge themselves throughout the session.

Titans Cup Success
King’s Netball made an outstanding start to the year at the Titans Cup, with both representative teams delivering exceptional performances after training hard since the beginning of Term 1.
For our Year 7/8 girls, this was their very first time playing together as a team. The team showed incredible resilience and teamwork in their first carnival together, finishing third overall. They had some tough games but never gave up, and even managed to tie against Hillcrest, who are always one of the toughest teams in the competition.
Our Year 9/10 team came out firing from their very first game and remained undefeated throughout the day and were crowned Titans Cup Champions following a countback against Hillcrest. A massive shoutout to our shooters who were incredibly accurate all day long.
Vicki Wilson Competition
Fresh off their success at the Titans Cup, King’s Netball backed up the following day at the Vicki Wilson Competition — Queensland’s largest secondary school netball competition.Despite challenging wet weather conditions, students demonstrated resilience, adaptability, and outstanding team spirit throughout the day.
Our Development team achieved an impressive third place finish out of 18 schools, while our Championship Division team finished seventh overall in their first year competing at Division 1 level. What an incredible start to the season for King’s Netball and an exciting sign of what is ahead for the program.
