Dear King’s Community,
Welcome back to the second half of the school year! I hope you enjoyed enriching experiences and quality time with family and friends during the holiday break. As parents and carers, we all desire a well-rounded education for our children that extends beyond textbooks and classroom walls. We want them to experience the world in ways that challenge their perspectives, broaden their understanding, and instil a sense of compassion and service. This term, our students have remarkable opportunities to step outside their day-to-day routines and make a significant impact on the lives of others.
In Matthew 25:40, Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." These words remind us of the importance of service and compassion and resonate deeply with our mission to nurture empathetic and globally aware students. Our Life team has organised events that align perfectly with this message, providing our children with the chance to live out these values in meaningful ways. You can see all the details on the Life page in Compass: Compass - King's Life
Supporting the Rescue Mission for Children in Thailand and Bali Christian College in Bali
This term, our students have the unique opportunity to support the Rescue Mission for Children in Thailand. Located in the Mekong Highlands of Thailand, in the Province of Chiang Rai, the Rescue Mission for Children provides support to vulnerable Hill Tribe children, offering medical and health care, nutritious food, shelter, education, and a safe haven from human traffickers.
Also, students can support Bali Christian College and Impact Church in Bali. All students and families can support by contributing unused and pre-loved pencils and stationery for the rescue mission children.
Drop your pencils and stationery items into the boxes at one of the school offices – Primary, High School and Main Admin. Our students can help make a difference in the lives of these children, offering them hope and a brighter future.
This initiative is supported by High School mission trips to Bali and Thailand in September. These trips are designed to immerse students in communities where they can make a tangible difference. Whether it's painting buildings, teaching English, or simply sharing their time and smiles, our students will experience firsthand the joy and fulfilment that comes from serving others.
These mission trips are not just about giving; they are also about receiving. Students will return with a deeper understanding of the world, a greater appreciation for their own lives, and a heart full of stories and experiences that will shape them forever. It's a chance for them to live out the biblical principle of serving "the least of these" and to see how their actions can ripple out to make the world a better place. Partnering with 100% Hope
Past King's Teacher, Trishelle Sayuuni (nee Grady) founded 100% hOPE in 2011 and now partners with local, poverty-stricken communities in Uganda to promote the spiritual, economic, physical and emotional development of orphaned and underprivileged children. This approach will enable generations of African children to have a future and hope through educational development.
100% hOPE owns 11.5 acres of land in Mityana, Uganda and is building Hope Village to include children's homes, a medical clinic, a primary, secondary and vocational training schools and self-sustainable projects to make a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of children and communities. Our partnership with 100% hOPE includes the Life Team hosting the Day of Hope Cultural Celebration on Tuesday, 19 August. There will be the Life Canteen with food and drinks for sale, amazing cultural performances, and students can bring a gold coin and wear a Tropical or Casual T-Shirt in blue, pink or white – 100% HOPE colours. These activities are designed to give our students a chance to support those in need. You can learn more about 100% hOPE at their website: 100% hOPE
Get Involved!
We encourage all families to support these initiatives and to talk with your children about the importance of service and compassion. Attend the events, participate in the fundraisers, and consider joining a mission trip. Together, we can help our students see beyond their day-to-day world and understand the profound impact they can have on others. As it says in Ephesians 3:7, “By God’s grace and mighty power, I have been given the privilege of serving him by spreading this Good News.” By giving our children these opportunities, we are not only enriching their education but also nurturing their hearts and spirits. Let's inspire them to be the change-makers and compassionate leaders of tomorrow.
Great to be back,
Damien Taylor

On Tuesday, 29 July, our Prep students reached an exciting milestone – 100 Days of Prep! To mark this special occasion, students and staff came to school dressed as 100-year-old versions of themselves, bringing plenty of smiles and laughter to our school community.
Adding to the excitement, students brought along the teddy bears they received on their very first day of Prep. Each teddy was proudly dressed in a decorated singlet, which the students had designed at home. It was wonderful to see the creativity and effort on display! Our Prep teachers had the difficult task of choosing the best-decorated teddy in each class. The winners were announced and presented with a class prize by Mrs Payne and Mrs Whiting, who were both impressed by the students' enthusiasm and artistic flair.
To top off the celebration, every Prep student enjoyed a delicious cupcake shared with their classmates and their teddies – the perfect sweet treat to celebrate such a fantastic achievement.
Congratulations to all our Prep students for reaching this milestone! We are so proud of the dedication, resilience, and joy you have brought to your learning journey so far at King's. Here's to many more milestones to come!
As part of their Integrated Studies unit, Third Rock from the Sun, our Year 3 students recently visited the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium for an exciting day of discovery.
Exploring Space
A highlight of the day was the digital dome presentation, which brought the night sky to life and deepened students’ understanding of day and night, the seasons and the relationship between the Earth, Sun and Moon. This immersive experience supported and extended their classroom learning in a memorable way.
Botanic Gardens Scavenger Hunt
After the planetarium, students took part in a fun checklist hunt through the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, spotting spiky trees, hungry birds, and even a cockatoo in boots!
The excursion blended education and adventure, sparking curiosity and enthusiasm among all students.
As we move further into the term, the Food Technology and Textiles Department (FTTD) is buzzing with creativity, learning, and preparation across all year levels. Here’s a snapshot of what our students are working on:
Year 12 Food and Nutrition
Our senior students are gearing up for their external exams next term. They are currently focused on revision and exam preparation, honing their knowledge and skills to excel in their upcoming assessments. We encourage parents to support them during this important period with encouragement and study routines.
Year 11 Food and Nutrition
Year 11 students are engaging in an exciting assessment task, trialling unique Bush-flavoured snack items. This hands-on project challenges them to experiment with native ingredients and develop innovative recipes, fostering creativity and a deeper understanding of Australian food heritage.
Year 10 Food Technology and Textiles Design
The Year 10 cohort is channelling their creativity into a practical project: designing and making custom Hoodies. This project integrates textile skills with design thinking, allowing students to express their individuality while developing sewing and construction techniques.
Year 9 Food Technology and Textiles Design
Our Year 9 Food students are exploring a variety of international dishes, expanding their culinary horizons and cultural knowledge. This unit encourages appreciation of global cuisines and develops cooking skills with diverse ingredients and techniques. Meanwhile, Year 9 Textiles students are busy learning essential sewing skills in preparation for their upcoming PJ Project next term. This foundational work equips them with the confidence and abilities needed for their next big creation.
Year 8 Food Technology and Textiles Design
Year 8 students are sewing their own aprons this term- a perfect blend of practical sewing skills and personalisation. This project also introduces them to key textile concepts while creating a useful item for future cooking activities next term.
Year 7 Food Technology and Textiles Design
Our youngest students are learning to make healthy snacks, developing an understanding of nutrition and food preparation basics. This early introduction sets the stage for lifelong healthy eating habits.
We are proud of all our students’ efforts and creativity, and look forward to seeing their skills continue to grow throughout the year.
Congratulations to Adrian, one of our outstanding Year 12 students, who has officially earned his Recreational Piloting Certification - an incredible achievement that speaks to his dedication, passion, and perseverance.
Adrian discovered a love for aviation early on, and through hard work and focus, he has balanced the demands of Year 12 with the rigorous training required to become a certified pilot. While many are just beginning to think about life after school, Adrian has already taken flight, quite literally, turning a dream into reality.
As he prepares to graduate later this year, we look forward to seeing where his journey leads next. We’re proud of you, Adrian, keep reaching for the skies!

Watch Adrian's storyWe’re proud to showcase students who are actively pursuing a career in the trades. These spotlights highlight the hands-on experience, practical skills, and personal growth our students gain as they explore real industry pathways and prepare for life beyond school.
This term, KTTC Year 10 students are engaging in a variety of rotations and activities as part of their Hands-on Learning program. These experiences are designed to build confidence, develop practical skills, and encourage community connection.
Students continue to enjoy reading with Primary students, building positive relationships across year levels, and participating in woodworking sessions at Bunnings, where they gain valuable trade-related experience in a real-world setting.
The Year 10 students recently participated in an intensive Certificate II in Community Services training day, facilitated by a visiting industry trainer. Throughout the day, students took part in a range of engaging group activities designed to deepen their understanding of the challenges and needs within their local community. They gained valuable insights and practical knowledge to support their future studies and potential career pathways in the community services sector.
Students in our Sport Development Program recently participated in a series of structured fitness tests designed to assess their current performance levels and track individual progress over time. These sessions focused on key areas of athletic development, including strength, endurance, speed, and agility. These assessments play an important role in preparing students for competitive sport, as well as future pathways in coaching and athletic training.

Follow @kingscollegeartCongratulations to Year 9 student Michelle, who has once again been awarded the prestigious G.H. Stainlay Memorial Scholarship and Trophy for the Most Outstanding Competitor in Music at the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts. This marks the second time Michelle has received this $750 scholarship, which is a testament to her talent, dedication, and outstanding musical ability.
We also congratulate Year 7 student Bella L., who was honoured with the Pat and Keith Haydon Memorial Award, a recognition of her musicianship and dedication to her craft. Bella’s achievement highlights the strength of talent within our music community and her continued growth as a performer.
Both students were celebrated at the Annual Gala Concert, where their success was met with well-deserved applause.
The Eisteddfod Season is well underway with for instrumental Music with three of our String orchestras performing and competing at the Quota Beenleigh Eisteddfod. The students performed beautifully in their respective orchestras.
In their category, Reedy Creek King’s String Orchestra took 1st place and the trophy, just ahead of the Pimpama Senior String Orchestra, which finished in 2nd place.
King’s Chamber Ensemble were awarded a very commendable 2nd place after their beautiful performance.
Our junior orchestra, Mezzo Strings, joined together with the Pimpama and Logan Village junior orchestras for a combined performance. While not receiving a place, this was a wonderful opportunity for these young musicians to collaborate on joint performance pieces. They are to be commended for taking on this challenge and pulling together a cohesive performance.
Congratulations Mr Chislett, Strings Coordinator, and to all the students on your achievements.
