King’s High School Students Take on Write a Book in a Day 2026

Creativity, teamwork and purpose will come together as King’s High School students take part in the 2026 Write a Book in a Day competition, an annual national writing challenge supporting The Kids’ Cancer Project.

The competition challenges teams of 5–10 students to plan, write, edit, illustrate and publish an original book in just 12 consecutive hours. Each team receives a unique set of story parameters, including characters, a setting and random words that must be incorporated into their story. For secondary school teams, the completed book must be between 3,500 and 5,000 words.

It is an enormous creative challenge that requires students to collaborate, problem-solve, write under pressure, and bring an entire story from idea to finished publication in a single day. Most importantly, the competition raises funds for childhood cancer research through The Kids’ Cancer Project, while completed books are also made available for children in hospitals around Australia.

We warmly thank Miss Chloe Marlow and Miss Lily Ramsay from the English Department for initiating and coordinating this wonderful opportunity for our students in 2026, encouraging them to use their creativity and love of writing to make a difference in the lives of others.
