On Wednesday 9 September, our Year 11 Fashion students enjoyed an incredible opportunity to attend KOOZA by Cirque du Soleil, experiencing the spectacular performance before gaining a behind-the-scenes insight into the world of costume and wardrobe.
Following the show, students met with members of the KOOZA wardrobe team and were given the opportunity to explore backstage and learn about the important role costume plays in supporting performers.
They discovered that some performers have multiple costumes, which may be changed depending on the conditions of each performance.
Students were particularly interested to learn how humidity and temperature can influence costume choices and performer safety.
Students were also able to see a selection of the intricate costumes and spectacular headwear up close, gaining an appreciation for the craftsmanship, construction and attention to detail involved in creating costumes for a world-class production.
The excursion provided students with a valuable connection between their classroom learning and the professional fashion industry, giving them a memorable insight into the creativity, technical skills and behind-the-scenes teamwork required to bring a production such as KOOZA to life.
