Congratulations to siblings Thomas and Milli, who have topped the Analytical Ladder in their respective Literature classes with Mrs Raven this term.
As students prepare for their upcoming Trial External Exams, they have been working for several weeks to develop greater and more sophisticated analytical skills.
Through the use of the Analytical Ladder, students have challenged themselves each week to move beyond simply identifying what happens in a text and instead explore how and why authors create meaning.
The Analytical Ladder guides students through five levels of analysis:
Level 1: What is happening in the text?
Level 2: What does it mean?
Level 3: How does the chosen literary feature create meaning?
Level 4: What larger idea is the author exploring?
Level 5: How complex is this idea? Consider tensions, contradictions, limitations, and the broader significance of the text.
By consistently refining their responses and improving their individual "Ladder Scores", Thomas and Milli successfully reached Level 5, the highest rung on the ladder.
This achievement reflects their ability to engage with texts in a thoughtful, critical, and sophisticated way, skills that will serve them well in their upcoming exams and beyond.
Congratulations to our Level 5 champions on this outstanding achievement!
