"From 16-21 September, a team of fourteen Year 9, 10 and 11 students left the beaches of the Gold Coast for the red dirt of the outback. We headed to St George to partner with St George King’s Church. Settling in at the local Uniting Church, we threw ourselves into every opportunity to serve, connect, and lend a hand across the community.
We travelled to a nearby town called Mungindi, where we worked with the local Land Council to clean up graffiti and refresh one of their facilities. A standout moment was visiting the "Old Miss", where an Aboriginal Elder shared a powerful story that had a deep impact on our team. We also hosted a fun kids' program, connecting with local children through face painting, bracelet making, games, and a sausage sizzle!
On Friday morning, we headed to St George State High School to cook a pancake breakfast and play sport with the students. Later that evening, our team helped run the youth group, featuring a delicious barbecue and an encouraging message from our very own Grace about the simplicity of faith.
Over the weekend, we jumped into hands-on service by running a car wash, helping at the local op shop, and completing gardening and maintenance tasks for local church members. Finally, on Sunday, we joined the King's Church service, assisting with Kids' Church and celebrating a week filled with incredible memories.
The people of St George welcomed us with open arms, leaving us with valuable lessons in faith, friendship, and service, as well as memories that will last a lifetime."
