With the aim of adding Science to the list of events celebrated at Kings Pimpama, Rachel Blatch (Primary Curriculum Coordinator) and Shone Reeves (High School Head of Science) collaborated throughout the term to organise a range of activities across the school for National Science Week 2026. This year's theme was Seeds of Science.
On Monday morning, students were welcomed by an eye-catching Celebrating Science Week display and were greeted by our Year 11 Science Ambassadors, who handed out science-themed stickers.
In classrooms across all year levels, a special Science Week lesson linked to the theme was held. Prep students sorted seeds, Year 1 planted cress heads, and Year 2 designed a container to keep seeds safe on a rocket journey, aligning with their new Version 9 Space unit.
Year 3 and Year 4 students were taught by our Year 11 Science Ambassadors. Year 3 has been studying living things and the life cycle of a butterfly, so students planted seeds for a butterfly garden.
Year 4 investigated how water causes seed pellets to change and explored why horticultural scientists developed them.
Year 5 designed and tested seed dispersal models, while Year 6 investigated how plants grow towards light.
Science Week themed devotions, free popcorn and a daily science experiment video also played on the screen outside the canteen throughout the week. We hope our budding scientists are inspired.
