King's annual Vision Ceremony has always been an important event for our school community and following two years of event restrictions, the special assembly returned on Tuesday, 2 August. Our College Board, King's Church pastors, staff and senior students all assembled to honour our King's Founders, who had a God-given dream in 1980 to build a Christian school for 100 students. Thanks to God's continued provision and wisdom, as well as our Founders' foresight and dedication, King's has grown to become a multi-campus school with over 4,000 students. Mrs Jan Fuller was one of King's faithful founders in attendance and during the ceremony, she lit the 42nd candle which represented 2022 as the 42nd year since King's first opened.
A video timeline told the story of King's humble beginnings until now, and ended with the poignant question "What story will you write?" Mr Meyers, Reedy Creek Campus Principal, followed with the message that from small things, big things grow - a philosophy that can be applied in many areas of our lives. As we seek to know God's plans for us personally, ask Him for wisdom and courage to fulfil those dreams, and take small steps of faith each day, we can follow the example of our Founders. One of our Year 12 Foundation students accompanied a Prep student to the stage, as she presented our Head of Secondary, Mr Vallance, with a time capsule of Prep student drawings that will be given back to the Preps at their Year 12 Graduation in 2032. The ceremony also saw five Year 5 students model the original King's uniform which made our current students very grateful that the College uniform has evolved from the yellow and brown tones of the '80s.
Our College has been blessed with a rich Christian heritage and as a growing school, we remain faithful to the King of King's.
Throughout the next week, students across all year levels will enjoy a Vision Ceremony assembly.
On Saturday, 30 July, the graduating Class of 2022 arrived at the HOTA (Home of the Arts) to celebrate King's Year 12 Formal. With spectators surrounding the luxury cars as they rolled into the promenade, and parents cheering on their sons and daughters, it was hard not to feel the enormity of the event. Our seniors dazzled the crowd with glamorous dresses and sharp suits under the flashing lights of professional cameras, as they walked the red carpet. Family and friends across the world were given the opportunity to be a part of this momentous occasion through the live stream of the arrivals.
Mrs Baker, our wonderful events coordinator, started off the evening with heartfelt congratulations for reaching this milestone, followed by our Culture Captains saying grace. Our Year 12 cohort were treated to a delicious three-course meal, in between the excitement of class photos with our cherished King's teachers. Every year, King’s graduating class is given a 'title' based on what that cohort collectively values and represents. To exemplify the unbreakable bond that has united the 2022 cohort throughout the past few years, Mr Meyers, our Campus Principal, announced this year’s cohort as 'The Year of Solidarity,' and Mr Vallance, our Head of Secondary, offered kind words of encouragement for our future endeavours. We also had an 'awards' ceremony with titles such as ‘Miss Sunshine', ‘Mr Manners’ and ‘Most Likely to Take Over the World’ - which were all decided by student voting. The night ended on a high with lots of dancing and laughter. Special thanks to Mrs Meyers and all of the King's staff who worked so hard to give us a night to remember and cherish. We are eternally grateful for you! - Natalia Pushparaj, Year 12 student
Our High School Honours Assemblies occur twice a year to award Honours Badges to students as we celebrate their high achievements from the previous semester. Last week, High School recognised students' success in the areas of College Enhancement (Performing Arts & Service), Sport and Academics from Semester One, 2022. The Years 7, 8 and 9 students were presented with their Honours badges at a special assembly in Week 3. Honours Badges were awarded at Teal, Bronze, Silver and Gold level, as determined by the College's Honours Criteria. Congratulations to our recipients on their outstanding achievements and thank you to our parents who were able to attend these special occasions.
Year 7 Honours Recipients
One of our favourite days of the year in Primary School is Grandparents' Day. We were very excited to have this event return in 2022 and welcome our beloved grandparents to school on Friday, 5 August. It was an honour to have such a great response from our King's grandparent community, with over 700 special guests attending throughout the day, from Kindy up to Year 6. Our students were visibly pleased to welcome their Nanas, Poppas, Grandmas and Grandads into their classrooms, where they spent time together enjoying interactive activities such as mini golf, Kahoot quizzes, chess, card games, crafts, and more. It was heartwarming to see so many hugs and smiles, and grandparents poring over the students' school work and achievements. Many of our grandparents also joined us afterwards for morning tea at the King's Table where they enjoyed meeting other grandparents and King's staff, and hearing some lovely performances from our Primary choirs.
King’s has done it again!
On Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th August, King’s won both the Junior (9-12 years) and Senior (12-17 years) Athletics APS Premierships for the second time in King’s history. King’s Director of Sport, Mr Jason Grady, King’s Athletics Coordinator, Miss Tanika Mahon and our sport staff could not be prouder of our King’s students' commitment, winning desire and outstanding performances over the three days of competition.
Middle Distance
Keilana Stanford-Modini (13 year girls), Kyah Anderson (15 year Girls) and Sayla Donnelley (17 year girls) all took the gold in the 1500m and 800m with a special mention to Sayla for having the crowd on the edge of their seats and breaking the APS record by 4.25 seconds in the 17-year girls 800m. Charlie Miller also crossed the line in 1st place with a 4-second lead. Ruby Hughes (16 Year Girls) took home a silver in both of her runs along with Jo Lethlean (15 year Boys) and Luciano Hutchins (14 year Boys) in the 1500m. Lara Cullen (17 year girls) came home with a bronze medal in the 800, as well as Jo Lethlean. Polly Sowery (15 year Girls) also placed 3rd in both the 1500m and 800m.
Sprinting
Our 13 year old girls sprinters earned sensational results with Alyssa Mcdonald, Charlee Vincent, Charlotte Lawry and Keilana Stanford-Modini winning all 4 divisions in the 100m and Alyssa and Charlee taking out the double in the 200m. The 400m 1st and 2nd place were taken out by Alyssa and Chelsea Capps. This group of girls also set a new record in the 4x100m relay with a solid lead of 4.57 seconds. Special mention to Alyssa Mcdonald for taking gold and setting a new APS record in the 80m Hurdles running a quick 13.10 with teammate Charlee Vincent finishing in 3rd. The 13-year boys also provided great talent on the track with all four 100m runners placing 1st in their divisions and taking out the 4x100m relay. Conor Rivallo-Griffin and Manny Paelay finishing 1st and 2nd in the 400m event, and Manny taking home a gold in the 90m Hurdles and the 200m alongside teammate Shanuka Silva finishing 2nd. Our King’s boys broke all the sprinting records in the 14 years age group. Seth Kennedy took out the competition with 2 new records in the 200m and 400m and helped his team break another record in the 4x100m. David Bolongi broke the 100m record from 11.94 to a fast 11.88 which has been standing for 11 years. Aasha Elliott and Fa’agase Tupuola-Palale took home the double in the 100m in the 14-year girls while the 16-year girls won all 4 divisions. Both of these age groups also won their
4x100m relays. Abby Cullen took out the 14 years girls 400m; Cooper Miller ran away with a silver in the 17 years boys and Ruby Hughes (16 years girls), Charlie Miller (16 years Boys) and Sayla Donnelley (17 years Girls) finished in 3rd. Field amongst our field athletes, we saw quite a few records broken with Nylah Goble-Lote getting both records in the 13 years discus and shot put. Chelsea Capps also placed 2nd in the Discus and broke the 13-year girls Javelin record by 4.9 metres. Well done to our students who placed 1st in their events!
Kings APS Age Champions
Our younger students came into their APS carnival inspired by their high school role models with a belief that anything is possible if they squeeze everything out of the team on the day! And squeeze they did, putting the pressure on their APS opponents from the first round. Although behind in points for most of the day, the athletes continued to persevere right until the last event and won the carnival by 56.5 points! Our King’s community could not be prouder of athletes!
Track
The first boys' track event of the day saw our 9 year olds Luca Thompson and Nate Mpala finish 2nd and 3rd in their 800m race. Knox Anderson took out the 10 year boys 800m with teammate Isaac Schwarz finishing 4th. 3rd place getters in the 800m were Lara Brenton in the 11 year old girls, Charlize de Chhimba for the 12 year girls and Danny Baxter for the 12 year boys. Anna Igari (12 year girls) and Nayan Jaglan (11 Year Boys) took home the gold in their 200m and Luca Thompson (9 year boys) and Asher Whitaker (10 year boys) crossed the line in 2nd. 3rd place went to Zac Bikneris (12 years boys) and Sophie Jones (12 years girls). We had some great results coming from our relays with the 10 year boys, 12 year boys and 12 year girls all finishing 1st. All eyes were on the track for the last event of the day which was our all-age shuttle relay, it involved the fastest boy and girl from each age group. We started off the race sitting around 5th position, but as the race progressed, our athletes started to pull away from the other schools and secured the 1st place position.
Field
We saw some great talent on display from our field athletes across all events on the day. The 9 year old competing in their very 1st APS threw splendidly with Rose Hart finishing 1st and Judah Griffith placing himself 2nd in their discus competition. Zion Marsden took out the 12 year boys age group by coming 1st in both the discus and shot put. The sand pit wasn’t ready for King’s as Asher Whitaker jumped 3.98m and secured a 1st place for the 10 years boys. Adam Abra and Samuel Butler both got 3rd for their jumps and Sahara Vanroon jumped beautifully, finishing in 2nd for the 10 year girls division. Christian Webster was exceptional in the 9 years age group, jumping an amazing 1.11m and winning the event by 3cm!
Kings APS Age Champions
The ISC is a three day, school-based volleyball competition where schools from across Queensland travel to Toowoomba each year in May, to compete for the Queensland State Title. King’s entered four teams in this year's tournament for the first time, representing the most teams King's has had competing in a State level competition at once. Our teams achieved outstanding results and all of our players learned and improvised both on and off the court. 2022 was also the first time a team has entered into Year 10 honours and our boys stepped up to the challenge and played hard to the very end, challenging every team in close five-setter matches. All King's teams were commended and honoured for their sportsmanship and honesty that they displayed on and off the court and have made the College very proud.

The Junior State Champs is an annual, two-day, volleyball competition that allowed schools to enter teams (previously a club-only event) for the first time in 2022. King's entered two teams into this tournament and was a great opportunity for our King's team to gain further tournament experience and represent our College. Both King's teams played hard throughout the tournament and came home with medals. Our U17 Boys team were undefeated throughout the entire tournament, beating every club team they faced. Our U15 Girls had a tough competition and fought hard to win their Bronze medal match.

GO KINGS!!!
King’s Instrumental Music Ensembles have been participating in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod over the past few weeks. Eisteddfods are an excellent opportunity for the students to gain valuable public performance experience while participating in community events and, when time permits, watch how other groups present and perform on stage. It has been a pleasure to be a part of the Eisteddfod and to be part of making beautiful music with other musicians. Congratulations to the following ensembles for being outstanding ambassadors for King’s and giving your best efforts.

Next week the Eisteddfod events continue with the Senior Concert Band and the Year 4 Beginner Band competing at HOTA. We wish them every success.
Our College is passionate about seeing young people thrive as we partner with King's families throughout the learning journey. One of the ways we do this is by equipping parents with tools and strategies for navigating some of the challenges of raising children. We regularly host free Parenting Seminars where renowned experts share their research and proven strategies and answer questions from parents. We hosted our latest Parenting Seminar on Wednesday, 3 August, and were honoured to have guest presenters Melinda Tankard-Reist, and her co-host Daniel Principe, speak to over 100 King's parents. Melinda Tankard-Reist is a well-known speaker, author and advisor on issues relating to helping our young people navigate a sexualised world. She shared more about how we can help our children resist harmful messages from media and pop culture, and aspire to have respectful relationships. Melinda and Daniel also presented separate sessions for our girls and boys in High School this week, where they shared their research from speaking to other young people, and gave some important advice for dealing with the cultural pressures that exist.
