Year 10 Japanese Students Wrap Up Cultural Learning

Year 10 Japanese students recently joined an online workshop with the Japan Foundation Sydney to explore furoshiki, the traditional Japanese art of wrapping items in cloth.

Students learned about the history and everyday uses of furoshiki before practising a mamusubi knot. They then applied the technique to wrap laptops, books, lunch boxes and water bottles.

The workshop also gave students an authentic opportunity to use Japanese language from their current unit as they followed instructions and discussed the activity.

Combining culture, language and a practical skill made the session an engaging way for students to deepen their understanding and Learn Passionately.
