King’s recognises the importance of partnering with our local churches as we encourage students to develop their God-given gifts and leadership skills, through various ministry opportunities. Every year in the first school term, we hold a Captains’ and Prefects’ Induction Service to present our senior leaders with their leadership badges. This year, we held the ceremony on Tuesday, 15 March, and many Church Pastors attended as special guests to present these badges and join us as we prayed for our leaders. Every Year 12 student was also presented with a leadership badge to recognise the responsibility they carry as leaders in our school community.
Congratulations to our 2022 Senior Captains, Prefects and House Captains, our 2022 Middle School Captains, and our Year 12 students for stepping into these significant roles at King's - we are excited to see all that God has for you as you faithfully serve our community this year. Our College Captains, Chloe Muller and Sebastian Field, both gave incredible speeches to the cohort and special guests, as they spoke of outworking the leadership potential God has placed in every person. King's Reedy Creek Campus Principal, Mr Russell Meyers, also gave an aspirational message to the cohort, reading his favourite leadership verses from Psalm 78:72-73, with five key truths for our students to reflect on and apply as leaders:
While this event was a special celebration of our leaders, it was also bittersweet, as it marked the last Induction Service for Ps Guy Omerod. Ps Guy is an iconic man of God with a 30-year history at King’s as the Lead Chaplain. He has been instrumental in seeing the call of God reached in many young people’s lives and leaves an indelible legacy in our school community. Ps Guy will retire from King’s at the end of Term 1 and we will have the opportunity to officially farewell him later this term.
As a Christian school, we are passionate about fostering a culture of generously serving others, as we share what we have to care for those in need. Every term at King’s, we hold a LIFE fundraising day in Primary and High School and we encourage all students to be involved as we have fun raising money for a specific charity. We launched our 2022 LIFE Program last week, led by our student LIFE Team, who help to organise and run our fundraising events throughout the year.
Our LIFE Program offers Years 6 – 12 students the perfect avenue to practise their leadership and service skills, make new friends and volunteer their time to help others. The LIFE Program even has its own student media team to promote the different projects students are involved in.
This term, our Primary community were excited to fundraise for Bali Christian College (BCC) for the first time ever, with an out-of-this-world Superhero Dress Up Day and BBQ lunch. The Year 6 LIFE Team did an incredible job of organising and running the lunchtime fundraiser, and as a result, raised an impressive $2,708! BCC will use this money to help families with school fees and purchase much-needed learning devices. Bali has been severely affected by poverty due to COVID and the lack of tourism, so it was also an opportunity to raise awareness about issues in our neighbouring countries, as we foster greater compassion in our young people. Well done Primary School for helping to change the world by showing up as your favourite superhero and bringing your donations for Bali Christian College.
Our High School community enjoyed a free t-shirt day and lunchtime BBQ event to raise funds for Teen Challenge – a local organisation that continues to help thousands of young people overcome addiction, abuse and other life-controlling problems, giving them a second chance at life. Thanks to our enthusiastic, servant-hearted High School LIFE team who also did an exceptional job in organising this event, and successfully raised $3,108 for Teen Challenge!
A very big THANK YOU to our King's parents who continue to support missions projects, as we partner with local and international organisations to make a positive impact on people's lives!

Our Year 7s returned from their first High School camp on Wednesday, 9 March, after an amazing three days at QCCC Mapleton on the Sunshine Coast. The action-packed camp program involved adventurous challenges that increased the students' self-confidence and helped them develop stronger friendships for their High School journey ahead.
Year 7 student, Thomas Beakley, shared more about why he loved his first High School camp:
"2022's Year 7 camp was a tremendous success. On arrival, we explored and familiarised ourselves with the surroundings of QCCC Mapleton. Then it was time to participate in a variety of adrenaline-filled activities. There were the freakish heights of the abseiling tower and the Leap of Faith, accompanied by the dizzying speeds of the Giant Swing and Glider Possum. We also enjoyed less death-defying recreational pastimes, like archery, canoeing, and relaxing in the pools. Throughout the day, we were so well catered for by the extraordinary QCCC team. Following the evening feast, students were ready to tackle Tribal Wars, cheering themselves hoarse with Finney becoming victorious. To end off the night, students again raised a cacophony throughout Devotions. The camp was a clear highlight of our first term in high school and students will be eternally grateful to the hardworking King’s staff, who gave up their own time to make this memorable trip possible."
With an unconventional start to school in 2022, our Year 8 students were even more excited than usual for their school camp in Week 7 of Term 1. This year, they travelled north to the picturesque location of Alexandra Heads on the stunning Sunshine Coast, where they stayed at the Alexandra Park Conference Centre and enjoyed a variety of exciting experiences.
Alessia Ulpiano and Didier Liddell, gave an account of their 2022 camp highlights:
"Year 8 camp was one of the best experiences we have ever had with our school friends. We enjoyed a whole variety of different activities, predominantly at the beach, which was perfect for cooling off in the hot, sunny weather. Archery, team initiatives and high ropes were our exciting land-based activities before we headed to the lake for raft building and stand up paddleboarding. Raft building was definitely a highlight, especially as our raft stayed in one piece! The beach and pool were where we'd often be found body-boarding, playing beach volleyball and laughing our way through pool-noodle races. The food was great after our long days in the sun and the apple crumble was exceptional! Tribal Wars was another favourite and we had many House games in the pool and the meeting hall. But the icing on the cake was playing supersized Hungry Hippos on night two (with lots of cheating by teachers in the final round). Finney brought it home with their high energy war cry, ending Tyndale's three-year reign at Year 8 camp... go Finney!
The interactive evening devotions were another highlight and on night one the girls had a pamper party, wearing their PJs and enjoying refreshing face masks and squishing shaving cream in our best friends' faces. Chappy Liv brought a great word on the night about how Jesus is the ultimate gentleman. We all combined for night two devotions, where Mr Muir shared an amazing word about our hearts and our growing relationship with Jesus. The night ended with people being prayed for, not only by the amazing Chaplains but by teachers and friends alike. Year 8 camp will truly be one to cherish, and we couldn’t have asked for a better time!"
On Wednesday, 9 March 2022, King's Year 10 PE students participated in a Training Day based on Training Limitations and Recovery. This annual incursion provides a unique learning experience for PE students as part of their assessment. The aim of the Training Day is for students to experience training fatigue, apply recovery techniques and journal their experiences. This year, the Training Day involved resilience training in a huge circuit made up of 17 stations. The students experienced this high-intensity training session with minimal breaks, pushing their bodies to exhaustion. After two gruelling rounds, students implemented their own planned recovery techniques and then endured ice-bath challenges set up by the PE staff. The Training Day was an enjoyable and successful learning experience for the 10 PE students.

Tuesday, 15 February, marked an exciting day for our senior swimmers, who were all keen to get into the water and racing for our annual High School Swimming Carnival. Overcast conditions didn't dampen spirits as our Years 7-12 students converged on Palm Beach Aquatic Centre abounding in House colour and competitive cheer. King's Year 12 cohort led their Houses through a chorus of war cries and House Challenges as our senior leaders' enthusiasm set high hopes for another fun-filled Carnival. Well done to every student who gave their very best and contributed to this important cultural event for King's. Congratulations to TYNDALE House who showcased their swimming prowess and House Spirit to win the coveted 'House Champions' title.
Congratulations to our fastest swimmers whose outstanding performances earned them their titles of 2022 Age Champions and Record Breakers!

The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is designed to provide regular data on student achievement in the areas of literacy and numeracy: essential skills that each child needs to succeed. NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows you to see how your child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard, and compared with their peers throughout Australia. King’s teachers frequently use NAPLAN to provide additional information about student progress and information decisions about differentiation and targeted teaching in the classroom to improve future student outcomes.
NAPLAN testing will take place in March this year. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in tests for Reading, Writing, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation), and Numeracy.
At King’s, we expect and encourage all students to participate in NAPLAN testing, and we are pleased with our established tradition of high levels of participation. During the testing window in March, catch-up tests will be offered for students who are absent on test days. Support can be arranged for students with disabilities, particularly if the student regularly accesses similar support for school assessment tasks. Students may also be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter of consideration by parents and carers in consultation with the school, and would require a signed withdrawal form.
If you wish to discuss your Year 7 or 9 child’s participation in NAPLAN, please contact Mrs Stephanie Kozina on skozina@kingscollege.qld.edu.au.

Homework is an important aspect of developing a student’s ability to succeed academically. The image provides a recommended guide to the amount of time your High School student should be spending on their homework, based on their year level.
Yes. As the term progresses, students will need to spend more time at home completing their assignments. Class time is allocated to these, but most assessment items require additional time spent working on them at home. If a student procrastinates or wastes the lesson time provided, they will need to spend extra time at home preparing for an assignment or exam and this additional stress and hard work is self-imposed. We encourage students to set up a homework space in a quiet area, free from distractions (including devices). Even a short amount of time can be very productive when a student remains fully focused.
Ensure that time spent on homework is as productive as possible (are distractions being avoided?). Consider time management and planning of homework across the week. If homework is regularly taking more than the suggested time, please make contact with the classroom teacher to discuss solutions.
King’s has reimagined our Easter showcase this year with an exciting new annual event that is about to light up our school stage, King’s Table precinct and Prep Centre. Our inaugural 'King's Easter Fest' is happening on Tuesday, 29 March 2022 from 5pm - 7.45pm and promises to be an evening of celebration and fun.
We look forward to welcoming you to King's for Easter Fest 2022, as we come together as a community, to reflect on the Easter message of hope in Jesus. See you there!
There are a number of traineeships available and these vacancies are listed on King's Careers site. These change on a weekly basis as new positions become available. Students who cannot find anything that appeals to them will need to source their own employer.
