Our Primary and Noah's Ark students and teachers were very excited to invite our marvellous mums to King's for our annual Mother's Day Celebration events. On Friday, 6 May, our special guests spent time in class with their children enjoying some creative activities together, and it was heartwarming to see our King's classrooms brimming with fun and laughter. Some mums enjoyed making sweet-smelling bath salts, embellishing crowns, crafting paper flowers or designing personal key rings, while others were pampered with hand and head massages or nail painting. Every mum was gifted with a beautiful card, thoughtfully hand-written by their child, and a Mother's Day sugar cookie, as a small gesture of thanks for our much-loved mums. On behalf of our College, we want to honour and appreciate our incredible community of women who selflessly love and support their children in countless ways throughout the year.
Our future leaders of Australia have been working on their Project Based Learning with the question of “What impact does the government have on our Australian society?" As part of their current topic, students enjoyed a special assembly on Friday, 6 May, with three guest speakers from different levels of government. Cr Glenn Tozer was the first guest, sharing his insights as the Divison 9 Councillor at the Gold Coast City Council, while Mr Neil Baldwin (Miss Baldwin's father) shared his experiences working at Tweed Council for a number of years. Our final speaker for the event was Ms Ros Bates MP, who is the MP for Mudgeeraba and has been overseeing the largest electoral district in the Gold Coast for over 13 years. Thank you to our special guests for sharing their governmental insights with our Year 6 students, answering their questions and inspiring our next generation of leaders to consider a career in government.
On Tuesday, 10 May, our Years 11 and 12 students came together in the presence of recipients' parents for a special Honours Assembly to acknowledge our high-achieving students with their Honours awards for achievements in academics and sport, contributions to College enhancement, and dedication to performing arts. These awards were from their successful endeavours in Semester 2, 2021. Congratulations students!
YEAR 11 & 12 HONOURS RECIPIENTSWhat better way to celebrate the excitement of Star Wars Day than to attend an exceptional performance by the Queensland Symphony of ‘Lights, Camera, Action’ - the film music of John Williams. No sooner had they arrived at school last Wednesday (May the Fourth), than over 60 of our High School musicians ranging in age from 11 - 17 boarded buses that whisked them up to the Queensland Performing Arts Complex at Southbank to see the 10.30am show, along with hundreds of students from across Southeast Queensland.
And the Qld Symphony did not disappoint! They performed all the ‘fan favourites’ like the Superman theme, the Flying Theme from ET, Jurassic Park and even Jaws. We were also treated to a few less well-known pieces like the music from Memoirs of a Geisha. And the musicians themselves revelled in the fun of being able to dress up as some of the characters from those iconic films. We even had an inflatable dinosaur playing the double bass for the entire show, along with an X-Wing pilot on a violin (it may even have been Wedge Antilles!).
All our students displayed impeccable behaviour and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the thrill of live orchestral music, with their musical peers from fellow schools. A big thank you to all our high school classroom music teachers and instrumental tutors who attended as well. A superb day was had by all!
"Wow" was the word most often used to describe this year's King's P&F Ball. From the spectacularly-transformed Sea World ballroom and the glamorously dressed guests, to the thousands raised for missions and the dazzling entertainment - Saturday, 30 April, was definitely a night to remember! This was our third King's P&F Ball created for parents and staff by our Reedy Creek P&F Association, whose main mission is to 'friendraise' by building a solid and supportive foundation within our school community, based on friendship and connection.
This annual event provides the chance for our parents to enjoy a fun night out together and help fundraise for our High School Mission Trips, and this year the Ball successfully raised $5,000 for Missions through a Silent Auction and lucky draw ticket sales. Our major prize was an all-inclusive trip for two to Fiji for five nights, and the well-deserving winner was the wonderful Mrs Karen Baker, who cares for our Prep students every day as an Education Assistant.
We want to give special recognition to our major sponsor and King's mum, Megan Cranitch - from One Percent Property Sales, and to our other three generous sponsors Sarena Taylor, from Travel Managers Australia, Tony Petschy, from Workforce Extensions Brisbane CBD, and Mark Osmond, from Hub Commercial. Thanks to the many businesses and families who donated such wonderful prizes toward our Silent Auction. We also want to thank our parents and staff who attended this event - for donating toward our fundraising on the night, for bringing so much joy and for making this event such a huge success.
Our biggest thanks must go to King's P&F Association, and especially to our P&F President, Liza Wright, whose vision, passion, time and energy in leading the team and preparing this event, made this spectacular night possible. The team are already back in preparation mode for our next P&F Ball and they encourage King's parents to keep an eye out on the P&F Facebook page to register for 2023. They are also planning some other exciting events for later this year and will share more on those soon.
The annual APS Cross Country Carnival invites the top 10 fastest female and male runners in each year level (Years 3 - 12) from each of the eight APS Schools across the Gold Coast, to race for individual placings and team pennants. This year's carnival took place on a new course at All Saints Anglican College and despite being unfamiliar with this track, our King's Team had a very successful day of competition.
Our King’s Primary Team commenced the carnival with a strong start and our 9 Year Boys earned the 1st Place pennant. Nate Mpala and Luca Thompson held a dual lead for their entire race, with a show-stopping sprint finish. Well done to Nate for successfully winning 1st Place, and Luca, for coming in a very close 2nd. The 10 Year Girls finished strong in 3rd Place overall out of the eight schools, with two of our runners finishing in the top 10 out of 64. Well done Makyra Melo (6th) and Abby Coetzee (9th). Knox Anderson also had a commendable run, finishing in 2nd Place for the 10 Year Boys. Leo Edmunds crossed the line in 7th Place, which cemented our boys' 3rd Place finish overall in their age group. The King’s Team was competitive across the board and finished the Carnival in 4th Place. We thank all those athletes who competed and tried their best on the day - your efforts were exceptional. Mr Grady, Miss Tanika, Mr Muir and our King’s sports department are very proud of our Primary Cross Country Team - Well done!
Our high schoolers started off their carnival with fantastic results from the 13 Year Girl's age group. Special mentions to our runners who finished in the top 10 - Keilana Stanford-Modini (2nd), Jessica Melo (6th) and Maya Zunker (10th), and to our team from this group who won 1st Place overall! Our other high school girl's teams had a runner on the podium in almost every age group, with our Cross Country Captain, Sayla Donnelley, taking out 1st Place in the Open Girls division, beating 2nd Place by a vast 1 minute and 21 seconds! Jayda Anderson crossed the line in 4th, helping secure the pennant for King's Open Girls team. Kyah Anderson and Polly Sowery cleaned up in the 15 years age with Kyah finishing in 1st and Polly not far behind in 3rd. Abby Cullen took out the 2nd Place position while Kaitlyn Baxter finished in 6th for the 14 Years girls. Our High School boys displayed some great talent with Charlie Miller dominating the 16 Years Boys group and coming in First, and Joseph Lethlean also winning the 15 Years Boys division. Luciano Hutchins also finished strong in 2nd Place in the 14 Year Boys group, with Jackson Brown crossing the line in 4th and Seth Kennedy not far behind in 9th, securing the overall First Place for this King's Team. A huge congratulations to our entire High School APS team for finishing in 3rd Place overall! We look forward to what 2023 has in store for these amazing athletes.
King's has been following the journey of our talented Year 11 student, Charlie Mitchell, as his amazing vocal talents continue to open doors for a successful career in the music industry. Charlie was recently signed by renowned international music Producer, Narada Michael Walden, (read the full story here) and just this week he enjoyed a guest appearance on the national television network, Channel 10. It was exciting to watch as Charlie debuted the release of his first song, produced with Narada, on the show.
From his early singing days in our King's choir, to Charlie's ongoing rise to fame in the music industry, we are cheering this young star on as he continues to fulfil his God-given passions and purpose... congratulations Charlie!

Our College's annual King's Golf Day is coming up on Monday, 20 June 2022 (school holidays) at The Club at Parkwood, and is open to golfers of all skill levels from across our King's community, including staff, students, parents and friends. Our inaugural King's Golf Day in 2021 was a huge success, and provided a great way for our three campuses to come together and connect. The competition will run again as a 4-Ball Ambrose game, comprising of 30 teams of four players, and you can register a team, or individually (and you will be allocated a team).
The cost is $90 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, buggy hire, breakfast, two drinks vouchers and lunch. Golfers will need to check-in at 9am where they will receive a light breakfast before the 10am briefing. Players will tee off with a shotgun start at 10.30am. After the game, we will enjoy lunch together and prizegiving from 3.30pm, with some amazing prizes on offer from the year's sponsor JB HiFi.
A new addition to this year's event is a Mini-golf competition for younger players or "non-golfers" who do not wish to attempt the full 18 holes. The Boulders and Badlands mini-golf course is an exciting 18 hole course that weaves through a series of dynamic obstacles. The cost of mini-golf is $30 per person and also includes lunch.

REGISTER NOWAt King's, we love encouraging our students to read, and so each year our College participates in the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC). The Challenge is not designed to be a competition, but a way for students to develop a love of reading for life as they explore a wide range of literary texts and develop their appreciation of the English language. Last year, 926 schools and 357 centres across Queensland took part in this Challenge, involving more than 168,000 children who read over 2.39 million books! The 2022 program is once again open to all Prep - Year 9 students and is running from Monday, 9 May - to Friday, 26 August. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability and fill out the PRC form with the details of books they have read.
To complete the Premier's Reading Challenge, students need to read (or experience) the relevant number of books within the Challenge timeframe:
Download a PRC form below or collect one from the King's Library. Happy reading!
Patrick Heelan worked diligently throughout his seven years as a student at King's, culminating in a successful final year of study where he earned an ATAR of 93.15. His academic success in Year 12 helped open doors to his future, where he is now studying a double degree in Engineering (Honours) and Mathematics at QUT. Patrick shared some of the ways he achieved success while still finding time for his favourite hobbies - volleyball and video games...
There are a number of traineeships available and these vacancies are listed on King's Careers site. These change on a weekly basis as new positions become available. Students who cannot find anything that appeals to them will need to source their own employer.
