The vibrant colours of India's flag filled King's Primary campus and Noah's Ark playground on Friday, 27 May, as our junior students wore their orange, green and white t-shirts, and rallied to raise funds for our friends in India. Missions form the heart of our College culture as we regularly practise King's Foundational Values of Loving Faithfully and Living Purposefully, in fun and meaningful ways. Term 2's Primary Missions Day supported Manna Ministries in India - a Christian organisation bringing hope and a brighter future to poor and at-risk children through their orphanages, child care programs and schools. Manna Ministries also help struggling families through their medical aid programs, disaster relief work and village development programs. Throughout our Colours of India day, our Noah's Ark and Primary classes talked about some of the challenges our friends in India are facing, and the ways we are able to help them. Our Primary student LIFE team also ran a BBQ lunch and served cheerfully as they collected money for the charity. Thanks to our Primary community for enthusiastically taking part in our Colours of India Missions Day and demonstrating such generosity as we show Jesus' love to those in need.
In Week 4 of Term 2, our Year 10 students jetted off to tropical Cairns for an unforgettable North Queensland experience. Their tour included snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, exploring Port Douglas, hiking at Mossman Gorge and viewing Cairns from the Kuranda Sky Rail. The cohort also enjoyed an exciting visit to the Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome where they ziplined over a crocodile, as well as some less adrenaline-charged activities, like relaxing around the resort pool with their friends. Head Chaplain, Mr Muir, and our Chaplaincy team, did an incredible job hosting the nighttime chapels, and it was wonderful to see how respectful and mature our group of students were throughout the trip. Travelling to Cairns gave Year 10 students the chance to increase their confidence with more daring activities, gain some perspective, develop growth and independence and make new connections with other students in their year level. A BIG thank you to the teachers who gave up their time to make this trip possible for our students. Well done Year 10 - it was a pleasure to share this experience with you and I will personally remember the time spent snorkelling around the Great Barrier Reef as one of the highlights of my school camp experiences.

Our Year 12 cohort headed to Mt Tamborine for their final school camp in Week 5 of Term 2. This was a bittersweet time for our graduating year group, whose 2022 camp experience marked the beginning of the end of their annual school activities together as a cohort. The theme for their camp was 'Lead with Influence' and focussed on four of King's Foundational Values: Humility, Wisdom, Perseverance and Respect. Throughout their camp, students participated in various competitions in their Houses, in the hope of taking out the Noel Collins trophy. After a full few days of friendly rivalry, it was NEWTON House who claimed the victory for the first time this year - congratulations Newton! Every Year 12 student made the most of their last school camp experience by getting involved in all aspects of the action-packed schedule. The Thrift Shop Bingo Night was definitely a hit, as Mr Hein and Mr Ravel brought lively and hilarious entertainment. Our students were very creative with their costumes and some spent most of the night in character. The second night was the Garbage Bag Formal where DJ Riley’s tunes brought out some electric dance moves. It was great to see our students supporting each other on the night and taking the time to complement each other. A big thank you to Mr Grady for leading the camp and Mr Muir for organising the night devotions - they both made this camp a memorable experience for our students.
Well done Year 12 - you all showed what it is to lead with influence and demonstrated what an incredible cohort you are! We hope you enjoyed your final King's camp and that you finish the year even closer as a group because of this shared experience.

Earlier this month, our Year 12 Business students attended an excursion to Dreamworld as a part of the research process for their upcoming assessment. The class had been studying how businesses in the 'post-maturity phase' of the life cycle find strategies to reposition themselves and find further success for their stakeholders. Dreamworld was used as the case study for their assessment and students attended presentations with Dreamworld staff regarding repositioning strategies they have had to implement. Students were fascinated by the honest data that they were given, the interesting presentation, the opportunity to explore the park and the unique strategies Dreamworld is using to reinvent itself. Our students and teachers had a fun day of learning and enjoyed adventuring beyond the classroom to engage with a real-world scenario.
Our Year 1 and 2 students put their science knowledge into practice this week as part of a fun incursion with the team from Street Science. The Breezeway buzzed with the sound of budding young scientists, who turned dried PVA glue particles into bouncy balls by simply adding water. This hands-on activity aligned to their current topic on matter changing state and it was exciting to see the students' amazement as the particles transformed from solid to liquid in front of them. Later in the day, they observed some daring science displays from a greater distance, as Scientist Raphael wowed his young audience with colourful chemical reactions and showed some exciting ways we can see God's glory through the lens of science, in our daily lives.
King's has consistently invested in programs for students who are keen to practise and progress their debating skills, and as a result, we have gained a strong reputation in debating against other schools. Pimpama campus hosted our very first Intercampus Debating Bootcamp on Wednesday, 25 May, where students from all three campuses came together to work on their debates for the next intercampus competition. Students refreshed their knowledge on how to write a persuasive argument and wrote very convincing debates on the specified topic: "All children should have access to mobile phones with full connectivity."
We look forward to seeing these debates in action at the next intercampus competition: Pimpama campus | Wednesday, 15 June | 4.30pm start
We love celebrating our students' successful achievements outside of school. Earlier this year, KTTC students Zohie and Toby Duncan had a busy schedule in their chosen sport of Barefoot Waterskiing. In February, the talented siblings travelled to Barcaldine in Central Queensland, to compete in the State Titles, which saw Toby finish 1st in Junior Boys Trick, 1st in Junior Boys Slalom, 2nd in Junior Boys Jump and 1st Overall in the Junior Boys division! Zohie successfully achieved 2nd place in Junior Girls Slalom, 2nd in the Junior Girls Trick and 2nd Overall in the Junior Girls.
Both students spent the next month in rigorous training as they prepared for the National Championships in Mulwala, Victoria, in March. This was the event's 60th Annual Championship where athletes from all States were represented. At the National Championships, Zohie successfully received a bronze medal in the Junior Girls Slalom and a 3rd Overall in Junior Girls, while Toby received a bronze medal in Slalom in Junior Boys. Toby was also selected for the Australian Junior Training squad, with training and competition set for the end of the year in the Australasian championships, and then the Junior World's Championships in February 2023. All such impressive achievements for the efforts of training and commitment Zohie and Toby show for their chosen sport as they continue to train hard on and off the water.
Congratulations Zohie and Toby for your hard work and determination to succeed!
King’s alumni, Elijah Winnington, had an exciting comeback in the pool this week after his Olympic disappointment and self-confessed dejection saw him take a short break from competitive swimming. He returned with great gusto for the Australian Swimming Championships this week in Adelaide, claiming GOLD in the Men’s 400m and 800m Freestyle events, and SILVER in the 200m Freestyle. Elijah’s 400m Freestyle time was the second-fastest recorded in the world this year, and his impressive times have qualified him for next month’s Swimming World Championships in Budapest, and a place on the 39-strong Australian Dolphin’s Swim Team to compete on the world stage at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July.
Our talented Year 12 student, Jesse Coleman, also achieved incredible success at the Championships this week, breaking a National Age Record in the Men’s 100m Fly event that had previously been held for a decade! Jesse finished 8th overall in the Final against his older competitors, with a time of 52.70, making him the fastest ever 17-year-old Australian in this event, and proving his promising career in the pool. Jesse also made the finals for the 200m Fly and finished 17th overall.
Congratulations Elijah and Jesse!
This week we completed our annual School Photos for 2022 where we captured thousands of individual portraits and hundreds of class and group photographs, across all year levels at King's. It was another huge undertaking, made possible thanks to the many hours of hairstyling and organising from our King's parents, the thousands of smiles and gracious cooperation of our students, and the insurmountable patience of the amazing team from QSP. These valuable images capture a point in time in each student’s school journey this year and will also be used for important ID purposes. Photo orders can still be made with QSP online using the Access Key 4PDHD9PR. All photo orders will be sent home with students in a few months’ time.
Our very first year of NAPLAN testing online is now complete. Everything went very smoothly as all technical elements worked well, students were prepared and organised, and teachers navigated the online system beautifully. Parents - thanks again for your support and encouragement throughout NAPLAN to ensure that your children arrived at school on time, with the right equipment, had a healthy lunch to help with concentration, and were well rested for their exams. Students - well done on your participation and completion of NAPLAN testing for another year.
High School will commence Whole School Testing for Years 7 - 10 students in Week 8 (from Monday, 6 June). Students will need to be regularly checking Compass news for any updates or changes, be organised each day, and apply themselves to ensure they can perform at their best. Our teachers look forward to obtaining the testing data so that we can optimise learning experiences for all of our students.

As the clock struck 11am on Wednesday 25 May, King's joined with many schools and Early Learning Centres from across the Pacific for the 2022 National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS). The Australian book chosen to be read simultaneously to students this year was 'Family Tree,' which tells a heartwarming story of family, community and the shared seasons of life. The morning's special occasion was a memorable moment for our Primary students, who sat virtually alongside more than a million students from across Australia and New Zealand for the joint literary experience. Now in its 22nd year, NSS has become an annual opportunity for educators across Australasia to unite, as they celebrate the enjoyment of storytelling. Guest readers this year included the book's author himself, Josh Pyke, who is also a celebrity singer and songwriter, as well as His Excellency, Governor General David Hurley, and his wife Mrs Linda Hurley.
World Bee Day is an annual event aimed to spread greater awareness of the significance of bees, and other pollinators, for our survival. This year, World Bee Day took place on Friday, 20 May, and our King's libraries celebrated the unique occasion with displays, relevant literature and activities for students. We cannot imagine this world without honey and therefore we cannot imagine this world without bees. Let's all do our part in protecting these incredible and very important little creatures!

Our College's annual King's Golf Day is coming up on Monday, 20 June 2022 (school holidays) at The Club at Parkwood, and is open to golfers of all skill levels from across our King's community, including staff, students, parents and friends. Our inaugural King's Golf Day in 2021 was a huge success, and provided a great way for our three campuses to come together and connect. The competition will run again as a 4-Ball Ambrose game, comprising of 30 teams of four players, and you can register a team, or individually (and you will be allocated a team).
The cost is $90 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, buggy hire, breakfast, two drinks vouchers and lunch. Golfers will need to check-in at 9am where they will receive a light breakfast before the 10am briefing. Players will tee off with a shotgun start at 10.30am. After the game, we will enjoy lunch together and prizegiving from 3.30pm, with some amazing prizes on offer from the year's sponsor JB HiFi.
A new addition to this year's event is a Mini-golf competition for younger players or "non-golfers" who do not wish to attempt the full 18 holes. The Boulders and Badlands mini-golf course is an exciting 18 hole course that weaves through a series of dynamic obstacles. The cost of mini-golf is $30 per person and also includes lunch.

REGISTER NOWAt King's, we love encouraging our students to read, and so each year our College participates in the Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC). The Challenge is not designed to be a competition, but a way for students to develop a love of reading for life as they explore a wide range of literary texts and develop their appreciation of the English language. Last year, 926 schools and 357 centres across Queensland took part in this Challenge, involving more than 168,000 children who read over 2.39 million books! The 2022 program is once again open to all Prep - Year 9 students and is running from Monday, 9 May - to Friday, 26 August. Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability and fill out the PRC form with the details of books they have read.
To complete the Premier's Reading Challenge, students need to read (or experience) the relevant number of books within the Challenge timeframe:
Download a PRC form below or collect one from the King's Library. Happy reading!
Naoise Kavanagh joined our King's community in High School where she quickly learned effective study habits which she was able to apply throughout her senior schooling. These habits helped her earn consistently strong grades and a very high ATAR. With her fantastic academic result, Naoise gained entry into the Bachelor of Paramedicine at Griffith, where she is currently enjoying her first year of tertiary study while maintaining her connection to King's as our Year 6 and 7 netball coach. Naoise shared some insights about what helped her succeed and how she made good use of King's free tutoring sessions...
There are a number of traineeships available and these vacancies are listed on King's Careers site. These change on a weekly basis as new positions become available. Students who cannot find anything that appeals to them will need to source their own employer.
