Ten years ago, King’s Christian College recognised the need to offer an alternative option for students who aspired to complete a trade, rather than pursue university entry. Leveraging King’s incredible campus facilities and strong Christian culture, King’s Trade Training Centre (KTTC) welcomed its first students in 2012. From Day One, KTTC’s Director, Mr Glenn Maleham, led the Centre with a strong vision for equipping students with academic and vocational skills, while developing their character and mindsets for success. KTTC continually focussed on helping each student identify their personality style and strengths for their best possible career choices.
KTTC'S inaugural cohort included 20 Year 11 and 12 students who completed their QCE (where eligible) as well as a Certificate III in either Hairdressing, Retail Baking, Commercial Cooking or Automotive. In the years that followed, KTTC grew rapidly in student numbers and course offerings, while maintaining their small class sizes of 20 students. Their facilities expanded to include more classrooms, a commercial teaching kitchen, a recreational basketball court and onsite salon for hair and beauty students. They developed robust partnerships with a number of renowned training providers to deliver certificate courses across many VET pathways and today they have 128 students enrolled and undertaking 29 different pathways. Countless KTTC students have graduated from the Centre as confident young men and women, and they are now enjoying exciting and rewarding careers across a range of industries.
KTTC's 10-Year Celebration Event
On Thursday, 27 October, KTTC was pleased to host a special event at King's to commemorate its 10-year milestone. Over 70 alumni, current staff and students, and industry partners, attended the event where they enjoyed a live performance from our talented musician and current KTTC student, Charlie Mitchell, and heard from KTTC alumni about their careers beyond King's. The group enjoyed wood-fired pizzas and a special celebratory cake, as well as an informal speech from KTTC's Director, Mr Glenn Maleham, who reflected on the Centre's success and future plans. It was a wonderful way to celebrate the first 10 years of KTTC!
We feel truly blessed to have some of the best teachers on earth at King’s, and this World Teacher’s Day we honoured them. We appreciate their warm smiles, their words of wisdom and encouragement, their caring prayers, the way they make confusing concepts clear, their quirky humour, their endless patience and how they champion our students all the way to graduation… and beyond! They make every moment at school a learning moment. We showered every teacher in Primary and High School with special treats and heartfelt cards to show how much they mean to us, not just on World Teachers' Day, but every day at King’s. Thank you teachers - you are making a difference for generations to come!
King's is excited to recognise and celebrate our Year 12 students who are the first members of our newly- formed “100 Club.” These incredible students finished with a result of 100% in one or more subjects, having received full marks for every Year 12 internal assessment in that subject. We are very proud of their efforts and the efforts of our teachers, who work wholeheartedly with our students to set such a strong foundation of success.

Our High School Honours Assemblies occur twice a year to award Honours Badges to students as we celebrate their high achievements from the previous semester. On Tuesday this week, High School recognised students' success in the areas of College Enhancement (Performing Arts & Service), Sport and Academics from Terms 1-3 this year. Year 10 and 11 students were presented with their Honours badges at a special assembly where they received Teal, Bronze, Silver and Gold-level awards, as determined by the College's Honours Criteria. Congratulations to our recipients on their outstanding achievements and thank you to our parents who were able to attend this special event.
CONGRATULATIONS RECIPIENTSIn Term 3, Year 10 Business classes from King's Reedy Creek and Pimpama competed in the Business Educator's Association of Queensland's Plan Your Own Enterprise competition. Business planning enables students to see interconnectedness in business operations and provides an in-depth understanding of business functions within a real-world context. Students worked in groups of four to develop a business idea and compile a detailed business plan that included logos and branding, a legal structure, human resource requirements, marketing plans, competitor analysis, pricing and financial plans, and the prospects for the concept in the future.
We are pleased to announce that King’s Christian College was awarded the top two prizes in the State for the group entries division and we commend the following teams for their success:
Plantation Station – The Green Evolution by Macy O’Rourke, Milana Porter, Jorja Martin-Follett and Chloe Ross, supported by King's teacher Mr Michael Easton.
These students designed an app that tests for soil type, pH (salinity levels), and hydration of soil to ensure plants and crops are growing to the best of their potential.
Medwatch by Isabella Zengoski, Dante Zarikos, Aiden Graham and Sam Brown and supported by King's teacher Inge De Kock.
These students devised a business plan for affordable watches that track medical information for people living with health conditions such as Alzheimer’s.
Congratulations to all involved! Both teams’ entries will now compete in the National Plan Your Own Enterprise competition.
King's senior Film, Television and New Media students have been working hard throughout the year to learn and implement their creative ideas and videography skills into variations of film content. King's hosted our inaugural 'Focus' Film showcase on Thursday, 27 October, to celebrate the students' hard work and share their finished pieces with an audience of family and friends. Over 40 family members and friends turned out on the night to view the students' submissions and to congratulate our 2022 award winners. Thanks to our King's staff for coordinating this enjoyable event!

Have you considered instrumental music lessons for your child?
Studies show that learning to read music and play an instrument helps students improve proficiency in mathematics, reading and cognitive development, as well as skills for second-language development. It also helps students increase self-confidence as they perform for an audience, and enjoy other benefits that come from expressing their creative talents. At King's, our Year 4 students receive an instrument and have weekly music lessons as part of our enriched curriculum. We are fortunate to have many dedicated music tutors who are passionate about teaching a variety of instruments and instilling a love of learning music. Our tutors also offer additional private lessons for students of all year levels, to help them advance their instrumental skills, and our participants in this program can also be involved in our school ensembles. King's instrumental music department are excited about 2023 and are currently taking enrolments for private lessons next year.
The application form below includes more information about the instruments available and the cost for individual or small-group lessons. The application form is also available on Compass under Co-curricular > Instrumental Music. Once the enrolment form has been received, the teacher will contact the parent directly to discuss a possible trial and suitable days and times for lessons. We look forward to seeing lots of new faces in our Instrumental Music rooms in 2023!
Mr Lindsay Genge
King's Instrumental Music Coordinator
