Our 2022 Celebration Nights were a culmination of King's culture and community, as well as a special celebration of student success. This event is an important part of our school calendar as it provides the opportunity to present our prestigious annual awards to students who have achieved outstanding academic success or displayed exceptional character and leadership throughout the year. Our 2022 celebration was held over two memorable nights in the King's Table precinct, with Primary School on Monday, 6 November and High School on Tuesday, 7 November. This year's balance of informal and ceremonial sessions, running simultaneously, provided an exciting new format. The cafe forecourt offered a relaxed setting for families to connect while enjoying King's choirs, student musicians and professional roving performers, as they waited for their formal presentations to commence. The auditorium was filled with awardees and their families during the presentation of awards and 2023 Student Leadership Badges. Following the presentations, photo booths near the COLA gave our recipients the chance to have their photo taken with their teacher and family members. Congratulations to our student award winners for doing your best this year and exhibiting excellence in your various endeavours.
King's Primary Leadership Program involves a rigorous selection process each year which begins with aspiring student leaders researching the qualities of strong leaders, and then preparing a written application. Applications are reviewed by our Campus Principal, Primary Coordinators and teachers, and shortlisted applicants are invited to present a leadership speech to their cohort. One female and one male student is then appointed to each of the primary leadership roles. Our 2023 Primary Leaders were announced at the 2022 Primary School Celebration Night.

Thank you all for your willingness to serve our King’s Primary community as you undertake your leadership roles throughout 2023!
King's Early Learning community enjoyed a delightful depiction of the Christmas story, performed by our Noah's Ark students in a show called 'A Wriggly Nativity.' Our spectacular end-of-year event was held in Week 6 of Term 4 and our youngest King's kids had a wonderful time performing over two sold-out shows. Students and staff from all six Early Learning classes had spent many weeks preparing for the special event by learning songs with all the teachers, creating costumes and rehearsing on the big stage.
As our auditorium filled with families, our courageous youngsters took to the stage where they stayed focussed for (most of) the show. The well-known Nativity story was shown through song and dance, with some very brave students acting as the main characters of the story. It was heartwarming to see all of the children enjoying themselves on stage and growing in confidence as they helped tell the important story of the birth of our Lord Jesus. Well done to Noah's Ark staff for coordinating such a special event!
The 2022 NAPLAN results have recently been released across Australia. We are very proud of our students for performing exceptionally well again this year. King’s NAPLAN results are summarised in the table, via the button below. This summary shows that our College has achieved well above State and National averages in every category, across every year level. Some southern states often record better results than Queensland because their students are six months older (on average) when they sit the NAPLAN test. However, our students have performed well above the averages of all states. Some schools are also ‘selective,’ meaning they enrol students who are predominantly of above-average ability and so would expect to get stronger results. King's is a non-selective school and enrols students from the full breadth of academic ability. We have teaching strategies to help all students do their best, regardless of their ability level, and these results are a testament to this achievement. Congratulations to our hardworking students and our exceptional staff for these strong results!
We are excited to announce that King's Christian College has once again been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2022 - 2025, for our work in augmented reality, coding, digital creativity and STEM. Apple Distinguished Schools are centres of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. They use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration and critical thinking in learning, teaching and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment. The selection of King’s as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our success as an educational innovator, embedded with a compelling learning environment that engages students and provides tangible evidence of academic advancement.
At the start of 2022, every Year 4 student was provided with a woodwind, percussion or string instrument to learn for the year as part of our Instrumental Music Immersion Program. They had music lessons each week as part of their enriched academic timetable and were encouraged to practise at home, to accelerate their skills. On Wednesday, 2 November, their culmination of learning was displayed in a special show for their parents and Year 3 peers. Our Year 4 Instrumental Music Concert was the perfect way for our young musicians to perform on their orchestral instruments and experience playing together in a band, led by a conductor. Our Instrumental Music Coordinator, Mr Genge, spoke to the audience about the value of learning music. 'Learning to read and play music is like learning a new language, a code, and doing so ignites the brain more than any other activity,' he said. Our young musicians thoroughly enjoyed the experience and their enthusiasm for producing music was evident. Thank you to our Year 4 parents for attending this event, and to our Primary music teachers for helping our new musicians on their learning journey. It was exciting to see how far their musical skills had progressed and we look forward to seeing some of our Year 4s continue in our College ensembles and lessons in the future.
King's students who have been learning the piano with Mr Juliu Hahn were able to demonstrate their progress at the recent Twilight Piano Studio Concert. A living room setting was created on the auditorium stage to create a comfortable atmosphere. Performing to an audience of family and friends, this concert provided the perfect opportunity for our budding pianists to gain valuable performing experience in a supportive environment.
The AFA held its Australasian Futsal tournament over the last weekend in October in Brisbane, and four teams from King's qualified to attend this event. Our participating teams in the U9, U13, U14 Boys and U10 Girls divisions all displayed outstanding performances, and each made it through to their respective Grand Final showdown. The U13 Boys competed strongly through their nail-biting Final, taking out the Championship Cup, while our U10 Girls also displayed a dominant performance, to earn their convincing win. Congratulations to our Gold-medal winning teams! Our U9 and U14 Boys also showed great skill and sportsmanship throughout their Grand Finals, and we are very proud of their Silver Medal success.
The Christian Schools Sports Association of Queensland (CSSAQ) held its annual Basketball and Touch Football Tournament at Mueller College on Monday, 31 October, and King's entered two basketball teams (boys and girls) and two touch football teams (boys and girls). Our students represented King's with excellence and produced outstanding results with all four teams making it to the Grand Final. Both football teams won their Grand Finals, while our Basketball teams also finished in a dominant position, with the boys winning Gold and the girls earning Silver in a tight Grand Final.
Well done to all teams and to our MVP's of the Tournament:
This term our Year 3 students have been studying insects for their art classes. They borrowed real bugs from the high school science department and drew their own bug, outlined it with glue and then blended soft pastels in complementary colours. We love taking inspiration from God's creation! Mrs Wendijk shared just a couple of the pieces but commented that they were all 'absolutely incredible!' Well done Year 3 students.
This week, female students from across the Gold Coast had the opportunity to experience a day in the life of an army recruit. Sixteen young women ventured to the Kokoda Barracks at Canungra where they enjoyed a firsthand taste of defence force life. King's students, Holly Hunt (Year 9) and Montana Ma’aelopa (Year 10), were excited to be part of this unique opportunity. They started the day listening to the stories of women in the defence force and the journeys each had taken. They enjoyed small group conversations with the defence personnel and then participated in a leadership activity in small teams, before being treated to lunch in the officers' mess. After lunch, the group changed into army uniforms and participated in a number of drills and an intensive defence training obstacle course with the defence personnel. Defence Force Recruiting run a number of events like these to help students decide if a career in the defence force is a suitable option for them. In July, Mats Schweizer (Year 10) participated in the boys' day and earlier this year, Lacey Keely and Kari van der Walt (also Year 10) took part in the girls' experience day.
Students interested in the defence force as a career can find out more during their information sessions and experience days throughout the year. These dates are published in the school careers newsletter and via email to students.
There are a number of traineeships available and these vacancies are listed on King's Careers site. These change on a weekly basis as new positions become available. Students are encouraged to source their own traineeship employer if there is nothing on the list that appeals to them.
