King's Dominate the Podium at APS Cross Country

Sport

The annual APS Cross Country Carnival invites the top 10 fastest female and male runners in each year level (Years 3 - 12) from each of the eight APS Schools across the Gold Coast, to race for individual placings and team pennants. This year's carnival took place on a new course at All Saints Anglican College and despite being unfamiliar with this track, our King's Team had a very successful day of competition.

Primary Division

Our King’s Primary Team commenced the carnival with a strong start and our 9 Year Boys earned the 1st Place pennant. Nate Mpala and Luca Thompson held a dual lead for their entire race, with a show-stopping sprint finish. Well done to Nate for successfully winning 1st Place, and Luca, for coming in a very close 2nd. The 10 Year Girls finished strong in 3rd Place overall out of the eight schools, with two of our runners finishing in the top 10 out of 64. Well done Makyra Melo (6th) and Abby Coetzee (9th). Knox Anderson also had a commendable run, finishing in 2nd Place for the 10 Year Boys. Leo Edmunds crossed the line in 7th Place, which cemented our boys' 3rd Place finish overall in their age group. The King’s Team was competitive across the board and finished the Carnival in 4th Place. We thank all those athletes who competed and tried their best on the day - your efforts were exceptional. Mr Grady, Miss Tanika, Mr Muir and our King’s sports department are very proud of our Primary Cross Country Team - Well done!

High School Division

Our high schoolers started off their carnival with fantastic results from the 13 Year Girl's age group. Special mentions to our runners who finished in the top 10 - Keilana Stanford-Modini (2nd), Jessica Melo (6th) and Maya Zunker (10th), and to our team from this group who won 1st Place overall! Our other high school girl's teams had a runner on the podium in almost every age group, with our Cross Country Captain, Sayla Donnelley, taking out 1st Place in the Open Girls division, beating 2nd Place by a vast 1 minute and 21 seconds! Jayda Anderson crossed the line in 4th, helping secure the pennant for King's Open Girls team. Kyah Anderson and Polly Sowery cleaned up in the 15 years age with Kyah finishing in 1st and Polly not far behind in 3rd. Abby Cullen took out the 2nd Place position while Kaitlyn Baxter finished in 6th for the 14 Years girls. Our High School boys displayed some great talent with Charlie Miller dominating the 16 Years Boys group and coming in First, and Joseph Lethlean also winning the 15 Years Boys division. Luciano Hutchins also finished strong in 2nd Place in the 14 Year Boys group, with Jackson Brown crossing the line in 4th and Seth Kennedy not far behind in 9th, securing the overall First Place for this King's Team. A huge congratulations to our entire High School APS team for finishing in 3rd Place overall! We look forward to what 2023 has in store for these amazing athletes.
