Jonathan Yang graduated from King's last year with a near-perfect ATAR of 99.30 and he was happy to share his successful study techniques in the hope of helping current King's students to achieve their best.

"What was your favourite subject at King's?"
- Biology because of its interesting concepts and topics such as genetics, the functions of life, and biodiversity.
"What is your most effective study habit?"
- Consistency is key. Answer a variety of questions that involve multiple topics and create notes that you'll refer to regularly in order to retain your knowledge - this is especially important for memorisation-intensive subjects such as Biology and Chemistry.
"What activities do you enjoy?"
- Art or just generally creating and designing things. It is always nice to have a hobby alongside your academic life, which can be stressful at times.
"And what do you do when things become stressful?"
- Talk to people - family, friends, teachers, or anyone who can help or relate. Whether it's the stress of schoolwork, or problems outside of school it's important to remember there will always be people to support you, and you're not alone.
"How do you manage your time and avoid procrastination?"
- Removing all possible distractions from wherever I'm studying. Study in an environment that allows you to concentrate and work efficiently. The most difficult step in studying will always be the beginning where you force yourself to open up a book... but once you've started and gained that momentum you'll be able to study for quite a while.
"What is your best piece of study advice for obtaining good results?"
- Make sure that you are both passionate and skilful in your area of study. Passion is particularly important, it is what drives your motivation to improve, practise, and build upon your skills to become knowledgeable in your subjects.
"How did you prepare before the ATAR exams?"
- I completed as many practice questions as possible. It is crucial to expose yourself to a variety of complex questions to develop the ability to adapt and apply your knowledge to answer the nasty complex unfamiliar questions.
"What achievement are you most proud of?"
- Achieving first in Biology.
"What are your plans for this year?"
- I'm studying Medical Imaging at QUT.
