King's caught up with last year's College Captain, Reuben Drummond, who recently graduated with an outstanding ATAR of 99.90. Reuben shared some poignant study advice and anti-procrastination techniques, as well as more about his plans for 2021, and beyond...

"What was your favourite subject at King's?"
- Specialist Mathematics
"What is your best piece of study advice?"
- Allocate time for revision and learning content for the week. Plan it out. Stick to it.
"What do you do when the going gets tough?"
- I put things into perspective. I think about how I would want myself to act when I reflect after the fact, and do my best to act accordingly (tough times are temporary!).
"How do you manage your time and avoid procrastination?"
- PLANNING. A trigger is needed to initiate any action. For me, that is planning using Google Calendar. Structure is the #1 way to beat procrastination.
"What's your best piece of advice for obtaining good results?"
- Have a deep understanding of the subject content. Dig deeper. Be interested in the subject content. As an additional note, please don’t define success by your academic results. Find what you are passionate about and pursue it - wholeheartedly. Make a difference in the world using that which you have been given - your skills, resources, friendships, communities, etc
"What did you do leading up to the external exams last year?"
- I studied consistently and effectively but not excessively.
"What achievement are you most proud of?"
- My ATAR.
"What are your plans for this year and beyond?"
- I'm excited to be studying a dual degree at QUT of a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (majoring in Mechatronic Engineering) and a Bachelor of Mathematics (majoring in Applied and Computational Mathematics). I have also started a tutoring business Sprk with Corban Eriksson which will be a massive focus for this year!
