Julian Wong worked diligently at King's to earn himself an outstanding ATAR of 95.00, ensuring he could comfortably gain entry into his dream course at UQ - a Bachelor of Engineering, with plans to do his Master of Engineering, after that. We asked Julian to give us some of his most successful study techniques...
"What was your favourite subject at King's?"
- For me, both Physics and Engineering were really enjoyable.
"How do you avoid distractions when you study?"
- By setting myself a system, and then sticking to it. I told all of my family and friends my intentions, and they respected my wishes and left me alone until I was free to see them.
"What's your advice for best managing your time in Year 12?"
- Time management is vital when it comes to making time for yourself. Spending time procrastinating just eats away at your own time. Having a consistent schedule and sticking to it is the best way to succeed. Also make sure you have enough time to relax. Studying all the time will just burn you out and you will lose the motivation to continue.
"What did you do to prepare in the lead up to the Year 12 Final Exams?"
- I wrote up the syllabus dot points and collected necessary information as my starting point. From there, it was a matter of understanding content and practice. Past exam questions are very helpful! Always
"What advice would you offer our current Year 12 students?"
- Start now. The best way to prepare and set yourself up is to start early. The more time, the better. Organise study groups, do lots of practice questions, do all your homework and assignments and, most importantly, ask questions! Your teachers are there to help you succeed and they are more than willing to help you.
