King's 20th Annual Sports Awards

Sport

For two decades, King's annual Sports Awards have recognised and rewarded the students and teams who have shown outstanding commitment, character, achievement and excellence in sport during the year. Our College and Sports Department continually work to champion our athletes and our 20th Annual Sports Awards event was another wonderful celebration of their collective success. Over the past year, our students have reflected King's Foundational Values in their various sporting endeavours, competing as honourable sportsmen and women, both on and off their sporting arena. Together, they have helped our College achieve some of the best results on record, winning the highest number of APS Premierships ever before for King's, and more than any other APS school in the competition. Proud parents and family members watched as over 240 students received awards for a number of outstanding achievements. The audience was also entertained throughout the evening with exciting highlight videos and a lively Kahoot Quiz.

THE RHONDA BEVAN MOST OUTSTANDING SPORTING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

This perpetual annual award is presented to one student athlete who has demonstrated the most outstanding performance in their area of sport, during the year. The 2022 Rhonda Bevan Award was presented to Sayla Donnelley who was named King’s 2022 Cross Country and Athletics Captain, then the South Coast Cross Country Captain at the State titles, and then QLD Cross Country Captain at the National Championships. Sayla's greatest achievement this year was representing Australia at the Oceanic Athletics Championships and winning a BRONZE medal in the 800m race, as well as a GOLD medal in the 4x400m Relay. This was an incredible achievement for her first international meet. Sayla epitomizes what it means to be a King’s Kid and we are so pleased she has signed a contract with the University of Florida, America (Div One School - ‘The Gators’) where she will be part of their Track and Field program from mid-2023. WELL DONE SAYLA!
