King's Cheer's Change in Leadership After 12 Years

Sport

Over twelve years ago, Angela Hicks had the vision to develop a school-based Cheer program at King's that would share the same supportive Christian culture of the school. King's Cheer was born in 2010 and promised to promote the athletic and spectacular sport of cheerleading in a safe and positive environment. From its small beginnings, King's Cheer has grown into a thriving program that now runs over 15 classes every week across Reedy Creek and Pimpama campuses, involving hundreds of students of all ages. Cheerleading is a performance-based team sport that combines elements of gymnastics, dance and acrobatics. It relies on every member of the team working together to be successful and it is thanks to the program's strong culture that has seen King's Cheer teams achieve incredible success in local, regional and national competitions over the past 12 years.

Mrs Hicks has also grown a team of like-minded coaches, who share her vision and passion for the sport. One such coach is 'Miss Hannah', who has worked as a Head Coach at King's Cheer for over 10 years. Hannah Blaxland was a National gymnast from a young age, a successful Cheerleader herself, and is also a qualified Occupational Therapist. Mrs Hicks made the difficult decision to step out of running the King's Cheer program this term, to return to her love of teaching in the classroom, and we are very blessed to have her join King's Primary teaching team. This week, Mrs Hicks announced that Mrs Hannah Blaxland will take over as Program Director, and while the Cheer community are very disappointed to lose their amazing founder, they are equally confident that 'Miss Hannah' will successfully take the program into its next season.

"King's Cheer will continue as normal as the amazing Miss Hannah takes over as Program Director. I wish Hannah all the best and pray that she will have as much joy running King's Cheer as I did! I would like to thank all the parents and teachers for your continued support, encouragement and positive feedback. King's Cheer will continue to be amazing and fulfilling for our students and I look forward to seeing the teams' future successes. Go Team!!"

Our College wants to acknowledge and thank Angela and her family for their immense dedication to King's Cheer over the past twelve years. She has invested so much time and energy into our Cheerleaders and has helped so many young students flourish and grow in self-confidence through her amazing coaching and cheer program. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Hicks as a permanent teacher in our Primary school from Term 3.
