Lasting Memories Made at Year 9 Cairns Camp
From biodiverse reef adventures, thrilling high ropes courses, lake boat rides among crocodiles, a rainforest walk through the Mossman gorge and a Skyrail line, to army duck rides, visiting the aquarium and zoo, venturing out to Port Douglas and a Dreamtime walk investigating the aboriginals and cultural traditions - This year the 2022 Cairns Camp trip was full of innovative challenges and life lasting memories.
We were extremely blessed to embark on a journey of a lifetime and snorkel in the largest coral reef system in the world. Visiting the Great Barrier Reef was the highlight of my trip as seeing the diverse ecosystem within the reef and its cultural background was truly magical. We got to observe and discover the many wondrous features of the coral and creatures of the sea, whether it was in the water, in the lab observatory or in a glass bottom boat. Through this privileged experience, we not only learnt about the significance of utilising nature’s resources but also how the aboriginal’s survived using spears, boomerangs and natural remedies such as making a body wash using leaves and body paint with rocks.
Chapel at the end of each day was refreshing and renewing as we were touched by the undeniably strong presence of the holy spirit as he moved in each and every one of us, through praise, worship and the remarkable teachers' preaches that were inspirational and heart touching.
The lovely welcoming service we received at the Cairns Colonial Club Resort added to the wonderful camp experience, from their deliciously nutritious meals to the comfortable hotel rooms and refreshing pools: Year 9 Cairns Campers were able to enjoy every bit of this trip and are so grateful to have made such phenomenal memories.
Philippians 2:4 states, “Not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interest of others”, this shows the copious amounts of opportunities we were blessed with where we were able to venture out of our comfort zones and try new things we have never anticipated to fulfil if it wasn't for this spectacular opportunity provided for us. On behalf of our grade, I would like to thank the staff, tour guide and everyone involved for making this trip a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
