State Honours Ensemble Programs

Pimpama

Four King’s students have been successful this year in gaining selection to various State Honours Ensemble Programs (SHEP), which are run across the academic year. Three of these students, Mikaela Hunter, Janine Park and Casey Ang, attended the most recent concerts which were held in June and July at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University over six days of rehearsals and performances.

The State Honours Ensemble Programs are an excellent opportunity for the students to develop their performance skills in a supportive, yet challenging environment, and make new friends from schools across South East Queensland. Congratulations to all of the students who attended these concerts. We are very proud of your dedication and hard work.

The next round of SHEP Queensland concerts will be held from 29 September to 2 October 2022. Students for SHEP Primary School are currently being nominated. These concerts will be held from 27-28 November 2022.

SHEP was a one-of-a-kind experience for me. Although I was hesitant about attending SHEP at the start, I am relieved that I didn’t miss this opportunity that could've left me with regret if I had not participated. On the first day of SHEP, we were given 7-10 music sheets and we went through them one by one on the first day. Then on the second day, we chose 5 of our own choice and rehearsed the chosen pieces over the course of one day. Finally on the third day, also the last of SHEP, we got the opportunity to perform the five pieces in the Queensland Conservatorium. I believe that SHEP was an opportunity for not only me but for everyone involved to experience and enjoy creating music with an orchestra full of people who share the same passion as each other. The only challenge that I felt was that it was awkward at the beginning as there was barely anyone that I knew and there were no familiar faces, but everything got better over time and I even got to make new friends. SHEP was a special experience for me and it was an opportunity for me to realise how fun it was to create and play music with friends. If I got the chance to attend once again, I would love to attend it again.
