Strings Intercampus Workshop

Performing Arts

On the last day of Term 3, many string instrument students from King’s Reedy Creek and Pimpama campuses came together for a full-day workshop where they spent time improving their instrumental skills and learning new techniques. Throughout the day, they had multiple sessions with various instrumental teaching staff, culminating in a combined concert for parents. Many of King’s own educators facilitated the event as well as a special guest educator, Nick Stefan, who is a highly-respected teacher and performer on the Gold Coast. Nick is currently the coordinator of String Studies at The Southport School and teaches students from beginner to early tertiary level students. He has extensive conducting experience having worked at the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra since 2009 and performing as a part of the Gold Coast Chamber Society and Gold Coast Chamber Orchestra. He continually seeks to share his passion for music with students, and it was a great honour to have Nick as part of this valuable workshop.

The culminating concert featured performances from each ensemble but also included combined performances with Pimpama Primary Orchestra and Mezzo Strings; Pimpama High School Orchestra and King’s String Orchestra. A combined concert piece, entitled Greater Than, included all students from the day's workshop and was a fitting way to conclude the event. The workshop was a great experience for all students and staff, and the College looks forward to offering more opportunities like this in the future.
